Continue the walking program I started last month
Keep decluttering the house
Decide where to move in retirement
Try to be less of a worrier and planner (but that’s been a lifelong goal and hasn’t been achieved yet)
I like the suggestion about spending less time on-line. (She says as she sits on-line.)
I have gotten into a very bad habit, now that I’m semi-retired and work from home, of taking a nap two or three times a week. I want to break this habit. When I get sleepy, instead of crawling into bed, I need to put on sneakers and go for a walk.
This would be at the top of my list. I’m sick and tired of how technology has taken over parts of my life. The only reason I justify CC is because of the little bit of moderating I do, and I consider that a volunteer activity, so it may stay.
First on my list is to not read the comments sections of online articles. It physically can make me ill.
Second is to continue my goal of doing more mindful activities, such as tai chi and a dance class I take (combines dance, martial arts and yoga); this would also include getting connected to organized meditation groups in my community. I’d have a lot more time to do these if I’d get off the computer.
Third… POSTURE, POSTURE, POSTURE - this has to be my priority as far as my physical health goes (which is where mindfulness/meditation and dance class play in); but it has to become part of my DNA, something that I focus on all the time. The older I get, the more difficult it becomes to correct this, and I am at that age where cumulative year’s damage of poor posture is still possible to fix, but time is running out. I don’t want to be that older person who walks around with their head hanging down (if I make it to old age).
Fourth, continue to seek ways to give back to my new community through volunteer opportunities.
I don’t make resolutions, but this thread has got me thinking about the whole declutter thing. There are so many items that dh is irrationally attached to that we don’t need and never use. I bet if I get rid of things a little at a time that he’ll never notice. I’m going to do it!
I always seem to feel as my life is like a train with no brakes running downhill. I am really, really determined to get things more under control and leveled out this year. H just ordered us an elliptical machine, so it will start with more regular exercise. Hopefully feeling healthier will lead to more productivity and getting things under some sense of control.
Good luck to everyone in pursuing a happier, healthier, more organized, less chaotic 2017!
Set a few goals for the year - in bite size chunks:
Lose weight. First chunk is 20 pounds by end of February. I’m craving a snack as I type this, but hanging in there.
Become debt-free. First chunk - I cut up my Chase Freedom card which has had a balance for a very long time. I renamed it my Chase Debt Prison card and cut it up! That felt good. It will be paid off in 2017.
More appreciation and thankfulness. First step is creation of a jar where DH and I write down good things, happy moments - even tiny ones - at least one or two a week - and put the note in the jar. We will open and read all of the notes on New Year’s Eve.
My goal for the last two years has been “be less of an ant and more of a grasshopper”. And I think I have accomplished it. New city, mostly new life. Still mulling over new goals… maybe… dating again? Was so busy single parenting and getting kids off to college for years after my divorce, then moving, haven’t really gotten involved with anyone. Mmm… not committing to that goal, but thinking about it.
And getting further into the glass fusion hobby I dabbled in last year.
Increased mindfulness
Declutter
Adopt a minimalist wardrobe. I know there is much online about this one, but would appreciate advice from anyone who has been successful with it
Ok, I’ve been thinking about this and I have a lot to work on!
Begin strength training
Clean out 3rd bedroom (full of boxes from move 2 years ago) and make into office/guestroom
Get annual physical and bloodwork done
Consider ADD meds - been avoiding forever, but I think it might help me meet other goals throughout the year - like starting my side business I've been planning for 5 years
Be less naggy (toward s/o for stuff he never listens about - but apparently never will, so why nag) :P
I did it! One kitchen cabinet has been tidied and much taken out. Ds1 happens to be here and took some of it, some went into the trash, and there’s a bag ready for Goodwill.
Part of the problem in my kitchen is that there are lots of big things that are bulky … cake carriers, etc. I wish I had a better solution for those things. Anyone have ideas? Otherwise, my kitchen is really pretty uncluttered.
