I do remember the “white shoes” are being a big part of it, but also in my world, white “bottoms” of any kind also fell in that category!

I’m not even sure if I own any white shoes anymore…even sandals…!

Like my mom, I was born in So Cal. Dad moved us to the midwest when I was young. In HS, I remember asking my mom about the “white rule”. She told me: “you’re from California, so you don’t have to follow that dumb rule.” And yes, I am currently rocking the white.

I hadn’t worn white pants in probably 25 years. However, I lost a decent chunk of white and found the perfect pair of white jeans last Spring. Of course, it was too dang hot to wear them most of the summer. I just started wearing them a few weeks ago and I’ve gotten so many compliments on them. I wore them on Saturday and my 81 year old mother remarked that I could only wear them for 2 more days. I’d love to keep wearing them, but I still do feel silly wearing white bottoms after Labor Day. Old habits die hard.

I do not own any white shoes, so no chance of offending the fashion police with my footwear.

I have a white sweater (which I felt quite rebellious when I bought), but NEVER white pants or shorts after Labor Day. My mom lives in another state, but somehow I feel that she would know!

I cannot wear shorts to work. I do not care what is on me after work, I do not think my H. ever notice. I am currently wearing very bright yellow knit shorts after work. If anybody tells me where I can buy cotton knit shorts with side pockets of any color I would appreciate. I have only 2 pairs, I am out of luck when they disintegrate. I cannot find cotton knit shorts with side pockets.

I think there may be lots of options if you don’t mind wearing men’s shorts.

My Mom trained me that no white shoes after Labor Day so away mine went this weekend, into the storage bin. I also changed purses, as mine was white with some color to it, but mainly white. I planned my wardrobe last week to wear the items I have that go with the white shoes. I know it is silly but it was the way I was raised too, in Ohio. Now, for my D1 who is going to school in PA, she is freezing, luckily brought a jacket with her but still it is really chilly. We will go for family weekend this week so we will have to bring her some more warm clothes.

Clinton, of What Not To Wear fame has a post on his Facebook page that came up on a friend’s feed this morning. He says that this fashion rule is completely pass

Nope, can’t do it! All whites (not shirts, but pants, dresses, shoes, pocketbooks) put away for the season or until we go to St. John (USVI). I know it’s silly and an old rule and I don’t follow any other fashion rule but years and years of training.

If white is OK with the Pope and Cab Calloway, it’s ok with me.

It is a sin not to wear white in Seattle this week! We are having the best weather of the year - 80+ degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Ahhhh… Summer. I hope my new white jeans will be hemmed soon so I can wear them this weekend.

Enjoy your glorious weather, BunsenBurner!
