Northrams, you go to Yale right? I think I saw you there when I was visiting a few weeks ago (I’m applying as a transfer). Everyone kept talking about this hot guy that transferred from Westpoint. Haha and then one of my friends was talking to you. I don’t know…just thought it was interesting that I recognize you on CC…if in fact that’s you. If not then ignore this. lol

You could have covered up your nickname, and I somehow would known this post would have come directly from you.

Umm…you do realize the guy could’ve been at best, an '08 right?

Haha yeah i noticed that but was too lazy “my bad”…

well…my bad.

I will add too

can i please send you a my short essay on “why” i want to transfer. the school is the university of chicago, and i would really be thankful for any feed back you give me. is there any way i can send you a pm or an email?

anyone want to read my PS for columbia?

I go to a top 100 university (in the 80s) and would like to try transferring to Harvard, Yale, and Stanford because my current university lacks a diverse and active student body. I’ll be transferring as a junior. I got a 3.9 my first year and took a lot of honors courses (7/11 honors courses). Most of my course load was 200-300 level and the reason I have a 3.9 is because out of 11 courses taken, I received a B in one honors course. I plan on retaking the ACT and hopefully will have a 32+. I have similar EC as previous posters (i.e. summer internship, part-time job, a couple of leadership roles, several clubs, and awards like Deans List and such). I think my essays will be great.

However, after reading some of the previous posts, I feel like I have no chance. Most of those who were accepted to Harvard and such had recs from Harvard alumni or had some connections (family, friends, etc) with Harvard or schools to which they applied. Also, the schools people are transferring from (i.e. NYU) are far “better” than mine (I put better in quotes because I don’t think that USNews ranking or reputation determine how good a university is but know that admissions committees probably think so).

I guess my questions are

(1) Does having a connection to desired school improve one’s chances of acceptance and by how much?

(2) While having decent ECs, I don’t have any that are “above and beyond” like “teaching English in China.” How will ECs be compared?

(3) Does my 80s ranked university lower my chances of admission (and by how much)?

I know that there isn’t anyone here who knows the exact answers but if you can provide some insight, I will appreciate it!
