We are well aware of challenges but believe they are worth it. As a music graduate myself, I have a realistic understanding of what it takes to get a music degree.
Donât you wish there was such a thing as performance minor? They donât exist as far as I can tell.
Hello! Weâre new to applying to music schools. I see that Jacob requires 3 letters of recommendation. Is this meant to be 3 music teachers, or should one or more be academic teachers? If itâs 3 music teachers, does it matter if they are school teachers vs private teachers? Thanks!
Is this the IU general app that you do first or the Jacobs supplement?
The general app doesnât require any, though you can optionally submit a counselor and a teacher recommendation. The website about the 2nd app to Jacobs says âIn order to apply to Jacobs, youâll need to submit three letters of recommendation. Your recommenders will receive a secure link to use to upload their letters after you submit your application.â We werenât sure if these needed to be all music recommendations or a mix of music and academic teachers. My son contacted IU and they said it can be any 3 teachers, it doesnât have to be 3 music teachers.
Yes. I believe my youngest daughter (I have had 3 kids attend Jacobs, and her application process is the one I remember best since it was just last year) submitted her private teacher, her high school choir director, and an academic teacher for that. She is a current Jacobs freshman in vocal performance.
