January 2010 Math thread

@canbambiswim

yes it was 3250!

@newcollege11:

yeah they asked for different integers :(

ouch

thanks for response

@newcollege11: Didn’t also say that the numbers had to be consecutive?

why the heck is it not 1/18
0 + 1 + 2/ 17+ 18 + 19

tser0609: It asked for positive integers. 0 is not positive.

@dillbilly

wow if it did i deserve a point off haha

it was a grid-in right?
so it doesn’t count against me?

@newcollege11

the question said it had to be three different positive integers
so the anwer was 1/9

it was a grind-in question

it does count against you. i had 2 grid-ins wrong and got a 770. 1 omit should be the same as 1 wrong though because at that stage it doesn’t matter if you get minus 1/4 or just don’t get a point

i realize it isn’t the same as getting it right

it’s just in case I get three others wrong

and I would love a 770 by the way, congrats

thanks. i was satisfied with it. hoped for an 800. i took it again in jan and did fairly bad on math. probably a low 7 high 6. but i made stupid mistakes cause i didn’t care, i plan to superscore anyway. hoping for atleast a 7 in the other 2, not so sure about it though

i think there was also a question sth like 1.6 -> 2.0 how much percent did it increase
there was an answer choice with 25%
am i right?

@iloveyouz,

Yes, the answer was 25% to that question.

yep it was what is the percent increase from $1,600,000 to $2,000,000. something like that and it was 25%

Anyway, anyone think I have a chance at 730 with 3MC wrong (that’s a -4 raw).

it was my first time taking it, and i didnt think it was that bad at all

this math section was pretty easy. Quite sure I got 800.
Does anyone remember the question about the triangle with sides X, X+3, and X+6?

there was a question about median and average
it was like how would median and average change if the second largest number is decreased by like…5?

does anyone know the answer?

and…can someone explain why the girl cannot be assigned 69?

The girl can’t be assigned to 69 because it isn’t near one of the aisles. If you do the ranges:

1-20
21-40
41-60
61-80
81-100

You would have found that 69 was the only number that fell in the middle of the ranges.

Oh, damnit!!! I must have misread the smallest x/y one. I thought it was 3 times n, not 3 different ns, so I put 3(1)/3(19) = 3/57. RRRRRG. That’s two stupid errors (the other was the last one about the inequality, a/6 or something), but thankfully I don’t think I got anything else wrong. Hello 770, or worse? I have no idea how the scoring works.
