I was between “If they would have been painted” and “Were they to be painted”</p>

<p>I don’t think it was ‘by the time’…I think I ended up putting ‘were they to be painted’ but it was probably wrong.
I think the ‘by the time’ answer had another error later in the phrase or something</p>
