January 2010 Writing Thread

I do not remember the beginning of it, just the part with “provided resources for photography enthusiasts.” The rest was definitely grammatical.

I think that “for” should be “to”:

“Provided resources to photography enthusiasts” or “Provided resources for photography enthusiasts to use.”

I think that “for” requires a clause, but there is really no way to check these types of questions.

I put additionally for the windmill question.

I did put “take for granted” on a CR question on the author and reader passage.

Hmmm… that one’s pretty hard to tell. I guess I’ll just sit and wait for my scores; at least I know I STILL have an 800 on Math so far :D

was the chromosome x question E ?

if you had writing experimental,
was the experimental one the first one or the second one?

yeah i think choromosome x was e, what was the full question for 21 ?

is that the question that had “for” instead of “to”? or is that something else?

also, there was something about an author that wrote books about boys escaping poverty THROUGH hard ship and good luck and I put that as the error…was that experimental?

I think it was e… but was it number 21? because I remember getting "no error"s for the New york apples and Saturn rings…

For the last Writing section, how many No Errors?

Isn’t the " It is generally… that Saturn’s rings…" question A?
It is ambiguous (?)
Also, what was the answer to Section 10, #7 if anyone remembers… I was choosing between B and C. It was the question about mental strategies to develop brain cells.

21 was the NYC apples

@sakuraino: I don’t remember which letter, but I think it was just a simple “blah blah blah to replace the ones that die from aging” or something like that.

-5 with 8 essay??

replace brain cells that die? i don’t really remember
what was ambiguous about saturn’s rings/?
I don’t remember exactly, but I had no error for the 1st question in the last section…

if anyone had experimental writing…was the first section the experiment or the second?

also, there was something about an author that wrote books about boys escaping poverty THROUGH hard ship and good luck and I put that as the error was that experimental?

sakuraino, the brain cells one was… i think it was B, like “available to replace any that are lost” or something…
i hope this is right–

ALSO - let’s make a conclusion about the windmills one - is it B: “Granted, there are also” or C: “In addition, not everybody welcomes”… I chose C, but i’m not sure…

I thought that for the saturn’s rings question, the “It” at the beginning was ambiguous. Is that right?

was it like
“IT is widely known” or something?
I really don’t remember, but I know I put No Error
not sure if that’s right tho :(

sakuraino, that one was No Error.

For the windmills, I put C: “In addition, not everybody welcomes.” Since he’s listing off bad things about the windmills, why not put “in addition?” It continues the list.

Yup the question was “It is widely known that Saturn’s rings are made out of ice crystals”. (or soooomething like that  )
I thought that A was the answer since the “IT” is at the beginning, and doesn’t directly refer to something. Any thoughts??

I think “it” refers to the clause that follows afterwards… like It is widely known “that the rings of Saturn are actually composed of several millions of ice pieces.” So I think it’s no error…
Are we sure that Chromosome X was no-error?
ALso, what does “granted” mean?
