<p>How much Japanese you learn in a summer as a beginner will vary greatly and you might be dissappointed, but just the experience of a summer in Japan will be one of the highlights of your life. You cannot begin to believe how awesome the Tokyo / Kyoto / Oosaka areas are. If you can go, for the love of God, do it.</p>
