Japanese Beetles

It is a funny name! I especially enjoy these plants in winter - they are at their most dramatic, in a twisted and tortured way, when devoid of foliage. The filbert, unfortunately, is susceptible to lots of pests and other ailments, but I’ve nursed it along.

The contorted quince is lovely - I’ll keep a lookout for one at the local nursery. I’m always interested in adding specimen or unusual plantings.

So… the traps worked great. But now I have a question about how you dispose of the bags of bugs. The directions said to tie the top and “leave them in the sun” for a day or so. Tried that, it led to carrion beetles and maggots (ewww) within 12 hours. Do you just tie off the bags and toss them in your trash, or what?
