It is the choice of each applicant whether or not they want to update their application with new items or honors. In my experience, Admissions counselors do not assume that a National Merit Semi-Finalists will become a Finalist. If you feel as if this honor is important, than you can update your application either through postal mail or fax.

AdmissionsDaniel, is there any way to check the status of our JHU application?

Please spend just a few seconds searching for an answer before posting questions:

To AdmissionsDaniel,

JHU has asked me to fax the International Student Certification of Finances form. Can I just fax the second page of the form? Is it absolutely necessary to send the first page(the page with the guidelines) of the form?

To AdmissionsDaniel,

In reference to the same problem as 400, I have also received the notification. However, my parents are out of town for the next two weeks, and I cannot get their signatures before the deadline. What should I do?

The first page has no information that you need to fill out therefore we do not need that page.

A parent’s signature is required for the form to be considered official and complete. The best solution is that you fax the form to your parents, they sign the form, and then either fax it back to you to submit or your parents fax it directly to Hopkins. Do not wait the two weeks as your file will be incomplete.

Hi admissionsDaniel,I was admitted ED;I read from the financial aid office that FAFSA is due May 1st latest from ED students;however, I got a bit scared when I checked on the JHU website dates/requirements and it says March 1st(isn’t that just for RD applicants?)Ha maybe that website data is outdated…I was wondering If you knew the exact date for ED? If not, I’ll just contact financial aid office! Thank you!

Glad the kid is brighter than the old man. I thought IDOC stood for Illinois Department Of Corrections. Turns out it is Institutional Documentation Service. Ready for more snow Daniel? Up here near Rochester the Lake Ontario Snow Machine is starting to crank up. I think we got ya beat again.

Hi, admissionsdaniel,

i’ve took my sat reasoning test for a second time in january and my scores drastically improved. I had them sent over to JHU last week. Do u think they will be considered in my application or is it just simply too late?

also, i just got a supplementary rec letter from my mentor. is it too late to mail that in as part of my application?

thanks in advance

As stated on our standardized test requirements web site, Johns Hopkins requires that Regular Decision candidates complete their required tests no later than December of their senior year. We do not guarantee that January scores will arrive before the Admissions Committee evaluation. Regular Decision applicants may submit January testing, and if the scores arrive before the evaluation then they will be considered with one’s application. We do not guarantee that scores sent after our application deadline will be processed in time to be reviewed with one’s application and we do not delay the review of an application to wait for scores sent after the application deadline. There is no way to tell if your January scores were processed in time, or whether they will be reviewed.

Applicants can update their application up until March 15. Do note that if this letter of recommendation will make the total of your letters of recommendation surpass four, we do not want it. If not, you may submit it by mail or fax. Once again, there is no guarantee that updated materials sent this late in the process will be considered by the Admissions committee.

Hi AdmissionsDaniel,

I wonder if the somewhat “need-blind” selection process applies to international students as well? Thanks!

Med Virid - JHU is not need blind to internationals. There is some need-based financial aid available but it is very competitive. There are also some merit-based scholarships available, just google “Johns Hopkins financial aid” and go to the Internationals page and you can read all about it.

MED VIRID

Johns Hopkins is need-aware for international students. Further information can be found here:

does JHU send you a confirmation email regarding Mid-year reports?

As is our policy we do not send e-mails confirming the receipt of individual parts of one’s application, including mid-year reports. If an item is missing from an applicant’s file we will contact the applicant to obtain that piece of information, and that policy is true of mid-year reports too.

Last year I remember calling five high schools one day before we finalized decisions to obtain mid-year reports for applicants we were still discussing. We consider mid-year reports a very important part of the application review and will make every effort to obtain them.

In the end, if you do not hear that your mid-year report is missing from us then you can safely assume it has been received and processed.

Thank you very much!

Out of curiosity, in general, how much impact do personal circumstances of an applicant have on how the application is considered? If the applicant’s parent were to be suffering from cancer, for example, and the grades dropped (not too significantly), would that serve as a sufficient justification or no? Why or why not?

I understand, of course, that the applications are evaluated holistically and that there is no “right” answer to this question - I’m more concerned with how this works ‘generally’ for JHU admissions officers.

is this becos of my end or you’re just trying to make us more anxious (kidding)?

In a holistic admissions review process, everything matters. Personal circumstances are definitely factored in as an admissions counselor reviews “the story” of each applicant. If a student has gone through a hardship, it is something the admissions reviewer will factor in, especially when a guidance counselor or teacher discusses the situations in their recommendations. (That is not to say that we also don’t consider what a student includes from their point-of-view in their application). There is no way to state how much impact such information will play in a review, because as I often state every case is reviewed individually.

Yes, the Hopkins Interactive site and blogs have been down for the last day. It is quite frustrating on our end because we really have no control right now. Our web server hosting company had some major issues and the server that hosts our blogs is down. My fingers are crossed that everything will be back real soon. It is in no way related to the admissions review process, or to make applicants and more anxious. Our Twitter and Facebook accounts are still active, as are the Hopkins Forums.
