JHU Admission Officers' Corner

AdmissionsDaniel,

Any way you could fill me in on the latest ED admissions rates for applicants to the Whiting School of Engineering?

Also, should I declare a major in my application, will my major alter my chances of acceptance (excluding BME)?

THANKS!

Do you know what time on 12/15 the early decision results will be released?

Around 6pm eastern time.

Hello, if I sent in a SAT score in June (which was low) and sent in an ACT score in October, will the higher score be considered?
Thanks,
Polyosophy

^^I thought they changed it to 7pm EST?

MakaiM, Admissions Daniel stated very clearly on Hopkins Interactive that each applicant is considered for the whole school and as long as one is accepted, he/she can select any major in the Whiting School of Engineering or Krieger School of Arts and Sciences.

Polyosophy, I’m sure Hopkins only requires an SAT or ACT score, so if your ACT relates to a higher SAT score than your June SAT score, then you can choose not to send it. But it’s JMHO.

Damn, we have to wait that long?! I was hoping for around noon so I can get my results before bed. I’d be too excited to go to sleep, lol.

^ I believe you are free to choose any major in either school except that Biomedical Engineering is a separate application.

^Yep and transferring to BME is nearly impossible, but ChemBE I’ve heard is a lot like BME but looks at it more from a chemist’s point of view, plus like all the upper levels are the same or similar them (so I’ve heard).

^^Yes, I forgot to mention that.

I don’t think BME requires a special application. I’m pretty sure all you have to do is indicate on the supplement that BME is your first choice major.

Yeah, there’s no separate application, but it is the only major you have to apply into per se. I applied into Biophysics, but upon a recent epiphany of sorts, I realized that I really want to do public health studies; had it been BME instead, I couldn’t transfer into it freely as I didn’t indicate it as my first choice major.

I’m sorry if I created any confusion by my mis-worded post. I think you apply and are admitted specifically to the BME major, not that it is a different or separate application than what you use to apply to JHU. I was just trying to make the point that it’s an exception to the rule that once accepted to JHU, you can choose any major in either school (Krieger or Whiting).

I don’t think Admissions_Daniel responds to questions on College Confidential anymore. Not sure why. I would suggest that you ask questions on the Hopkins message boards. I have asked a couple and he is been very helpful.

[Welcome to the Hopkins Forums](http://forums.hopkins-interactive.com/index/)

even though hopkins says they admit you into the overall university and doesnt go by major; your major choice has to influence their decision clearly otherwise they shouldnt even ask it.
example is last year from my school one kid who applied as a political science major to JHU and got into
another with i wouldnt say substantial but had higher test scores, GPA etc and applied into just biology and he got rejected so i mean from that example clearly the major choice has to influence the decision to a certain degree

I’m baaaaaaaack. After a 10 and 1/2 month absence I am finally returning to College Confidential. If you want to know why I have been absent for so long, read this:

Since most of the posts on this thread are quite old or have been answered by others, I thought I would just respond to the last question.

I have answered this question a number of times, and will refer you to this discussion on the Hopkins Forums:
[Intended Major in the Admissions process?](http://forums.hopkins-interactive.com/topic/563310/1)

The most relevant response I posted on that thread is:

I haven’t looked in on this thread in a while, I’ve wanted to go to Hopkins since elevenish, but I’m a sophomore and my SAT is only around 1800…Unless I do some serious work, Pretty much restricted to the state university when it comes time to apply, plus I’m Asian…even worse.

As I have posted when I first started posting on College Confidential (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/2847417-post2.html</a>) I do not comment on chances thread nor do I answer questions about what it takes to be admitted.

I wasn’t asking asking you to chance me, neither was I asking about what it takes to be admitted, I was merely saying this generally. Chill out.

Replace neither with nor*

@NickFan I did nothing to disrespect the Admissions Staff. I just pointed out that I wasn’t asking AdmissionsDaniel to comment on my post, by the way, I don’t think you have any business butting in here, because I said/did nothing wrong.
