JHU Admission Officers' Corner

You can do that IN ADDITION to the letter of explanation about using multiple names in your application.

I requested an Alumni Interview online a few days before the deadline (January 12th, I believe?), and at the time, I remember that there was a little notice on the page saying that I should hear back within two weeks about whether or not I would have an interview. I know the area in which I live has multiple Hopkins alumni (perhaps not all volunteers, but I more than just a few). The interview page on the Hopkins website currently says that I should hear back shortly, but that’s been up there for a while now. Since I haven’t heard back yet and it’s been over two weeks, does that means I will not be getting an interview? Will I get any notification if an interview is not able to be arranged?

Thanks for reading this.

Just be patient. There are a ton of interview requests that are being processed every day. You will be contacted … it is just taking a bit longer because there were more requests than in previous year.

The requests are processed based on when they were received. Since you submitted your request closer to the Jan. 15 deadline, it is going to take longer than the suggested two weeks on the web site.

AdmissionsDaniel,
I was wondering - Is the CCI a part of JHU or is it a completely seperate school? (computer career institute) –> If i attend CCI, will I ultimatly recieve I degree from CCI or JHU?

Thanks.

The Computer Career Institute is separate from the undergraduate programs offered at Hopkins. They offer training certificate programs … not official degrees.

I wasn’t offered an interview. If there is one avliable would I be contacted, or do I have to contact JHU? My other question is how important is demonstarted interest. I live far away from JHU, so I haven’t visited, should I send in an ā€œinterestā€ letter, explaining why it is my first choice?

Johns Hopkins does not contact applicants for interviews; they are by request only. The deadline to request an alumni interview has passed (it was Jan. 15).

We are not one of the schools that places high value on demonstrated interest. You may submit a supplement letter, but it is in no way necessary.

I’m not sure if this would fall into the type of question you would answer, but I will complete my Gold Award this week. Should I let the Admissions Office know about this? If so, would a letter be sufficient or should I do it a different way?

It is the choice of each individual applicant whether or not to update their application. If you feel this is an important item that should be included with your application, then you have the opportunity to update.

Johns Hopkins will only process updates received by mail or fax … email updates will not be processed. Also note, the last day to update one’s application for admission is March 1.

Okay, thank you.

Is it enough if it’s postmarked by March 1?

Thank you AdmissionsDaniel for replying to my interview question before, but it’s been over a month and a half now since I registered for an alumni interview, and I still have not been contacted–by either an alumni or by someone telling me I’m not going to be afforded an interview.

Considering that I haven’t heard back from anyone (despite there being quite a few alumni in my area) and that it’s almost March already, am I right in assuming that I’m just not going to get any notification as to whether or not I’ll receive an interview, and that I’m just not going to get one?

ginab591:
Yes, postmarked by March 1 is fine. There is no guarantee that anything postmarked after March 1 will be processed and reviewed.

oreogasms:
I can not assist you as I am not involved with the alumni interview system nor do we receive updates on interview request processing. Send an email to NASC@jhu.edu to ask about the status of your request.

I still haven’t received a postcard or any written confirmation that my application has been received or that it is complete. Should I call the admissions office to confirm that my application is complete or should I continue to wait to receive something in the mail.

The only contact that I’ve had is with the financial aid office.

^I second that question; I haven’t even so much as heard from the financial aid office. I’m basically left completely in the dark >_<

Since it is mid-March, you should call to check on whether or not your application materials have been received. You can not check your status online nor via email. Call the Admissions Office (410-516-8171) on Monday to check. For financial aid you would need to call 410-516-8028.

If you are an international applicant, that is probably why you never received the blue postcard.

Does not requesting a interview hurt your chances of getting into Johns Hopkins?

^No, plus isn’t it a little too late if it did?

I’m an RD applicant, but I just realized (after talking to a friend of mine who also applied RD) that I never received information regarding how to create an online account to check decision status etc. Is it too late? What do I need to do to get a username/password? Thanks so much!

^
There is no way for applicants to check the decision online. Your decision will be sent via email and mail.

You should have an account to check if they received your financial aid documents though.

^ Ok. I didn’t send any financial aid documents, is this why I have no account/never received information on how to get an account?
And since I’m not applying for financial aid, is there any reason for me to even have an account?

Thanks!
