man i’m sick of everyone always saying that grades and scores don’t matter and that EC’s and essays and stuff do matter. it makes me really nervous because i feel like i’m the only one who has crappy EC’s and essays. everyone says, “anyone can study and get a perfect SAT score”. all i have to say is, anyone can go volunteer for 60 million hours but not everyone can maintain straight A’s with lots of AP classes!

charm, I definitely agree with you. Of COURSE stats and straight A’s and lots of AP classes matter–probably weigh a lot more (it’s an academic institution after all). I think what others are trying to say is that that is not the ONLY thing that matters when it comes to decision making, and that JHU looks at the whole package instead of just rating a student on extra curriculars or just their course load. I think what people are just saying for those who think that their stats are too horrible is just that someone who doesn’t have a perfect SAT and straight A’s can still show their dedication and commitment through things that they’re good at, or have devoted their time to.

But yeah, stats matter A LOT no matter what people tell you. It definitely is hard to get straight A’s and a good SAT score. Congrats.
