Joint Science Department

bballchica,

I love Scripps, and am so glad I made the decision to attend. If you’re asking for particular things that I enjoy, then I would have to say it’s quite a few things.

I love the people I’ve met here so far and the friends that I’ve made. Everyone here is friendly, and it is not a competitive atmosphere at all; it’s helpful, and your fellow students are willing to help you. Students here are mature, and it is so refreshing, coming from high school where people can be obnoxious and immature. Students here are aware of their world; giving an example, election night this week. Everyone was huddled around a TV or at the Motley, eagerly watching the results. Also, coming from a town that is somewhat conservative, it is also refreshing to find a more liberal atmosphere.

Another thing I love is my professors so far. For AISS, the three professors that I have are really helpful, and incredibly good at what they do. My physics professor is by far one of the best teachers I’ve had, and he’s incredibly helpful in his office hours, making sure you really understand the material. He isn’t condescending or intimidating and really is committed to his teaching. My Core professor is super nice as well, and really tries to encourage discussion in our class, making sure we understand what we’re reading. My writing professor is awesome and incredibly down-to-earth. She’s extremely helpful in writing papers and trying to give me ideas of what to write about, and she is completely understanding when I say I don’t come from a good writing background in high school. I could ramble on about the professors I have, and it is really refreshing coming from a mediocre senior year with not the best teachers.
