June 2008- Math Level 2

so…what was the discontinuity problem again i might have gotten that wrong. My calculator for some reason did not at all display the axes during the tests so i was wondering whether you guys put it as (A)-continuous or whether you indicated something else. also can you guys remember the range one…and tell me what you put. thanks, im really nervous im down to 4 wrong(just curious could that still be an 800)

discontinuous at 2

wow my post in response to sixthsense was posted a few posts up…CC has screwed up time

was the range one just like…you get your calculator to graph it and then get it to calculate the local min?
i think it was negative?

yeah it was canadianftw

Another way people did it was calculating the derivative and finding it’s zero; that’s what I did, and it was a little quicker to do by hand.

I feel like if I had owned/known how to use a graphing calculator this whole thing would have been much easier; how much of an advantage would it have given me to have used a graphing calculator over my $15 scientific one?

kfowler: a lot. i graphed mostly everything, did all the trig w/out any identities but just plugging in #s, discriminants etc

“-range was greater than .794?i think”

does anyone remember this exact problem?

Correct, a-b = -(b-a), so the other vector would be antiparallel (180 degrees away), which would be in quad 2.

i dont recall the exact problem it was like 2x^4-4x+something else, and i think i graphed found the min and put.794, however my calc was not working and since i couldnt see the aces, i put the x coordinate(.794) i think the correct answer was like -1.93(someone plz correct me if im wrong)

yeah!
that -1.93 rings a bell now

Minimum occurs at cuberoot of 1/2 as f’(x) = 8x^3-4

wasn’t the range greater than -7.94, or was it -1.93? I think the answer was E?

derivatives ftw!

i believe the X coordinate is .794 but the Y (range) is like -1.something.

-first one was like 31892
-total 4 three digit numbers was 24
-determinant was 0
-y-3=cos(2(x+5))
-the one with symmetry to origin had graphs resembling tan x
-for the one with the volume of the trough i think i put 18sintheta
-ax2+bx+c one was a i think
-the one with the 840 beach house vacation was $140
-#50 was 2log(cos(x))
-vector one was 4th quadrant
-the one with the rectangle and line x+c was -1
-the one with 1/a+1/3a+1/2aetc… was 11
-the one with like smallest angle of a triangle was 44 (all from sixhsense)
-for the m^90 one it was 34
-the limit was 2
-the SA of the prism was 156.9
-worker factory was P=A*(1.05)^t
-sin(sinx) one was (-4/7)
-the one with the mean and median was mean=median
-the one with roots 3 and -2+i had root -2-i ONLY
-problem with inverse functions was 0.
-problem with standard deviation was three(III) only
-problem with various trig equations was (II) and (III)–i think that was choice E

and lol i should have taken the derivative idk what i was thinking.

minimum occurs AT x=0.7937
range = y values
minimum IS y=-1.93
=P

lol for the bar graph problem i think the answer was 2.48, but does anyone recall the other answer choice i might have made a careless mistake. thanks!

does anybody remember the specific trig questions?
there were like three of them
one of them was (sinx)^2 + (cosx)^2 = 1
i think
