Time to wait until Friday to check for scores again /:
@NeilMo buy the most current official ACT book (it’s red) and take the practice tests. As it says, these are real, previously administered (i think - could be wrong) ACT tests developed by the ACT itself with an exact curve for that test. It helped me… A lot… I honestly think that theyre easier tests than other practice books (e.g. Barrons, princeton review), but theyre more similar to the actual test, so they should help your consistency/knowledge of the test itself, which is what u need, bc your previous scores show that you know most of the material
@pcaornkqeurest I have the 2014 Red Book Edition, will that suffice? Or is the new one necessary. Thanks for the help!
Composite 33
English 35 (-1)
Math 30 (+3)
Reading 36 (+1)
Science 29 (+1)
I’m really trying to get a 34+, but I’m not sure how to raise science- I took my first two acts without prep and got 30 and 32 composite, took a class before this one and science barely rose…maybe I’ll just do a lot of practice tests
@NeilMo
The new one isn’t worth it. There are only three tests in it and these are mostly made out of questions already covered in the earlier edition.
The only section that has changed is Writing, and you can find enough about that on the internet.
@NeilMo ya youre fine with that one, just make sure u take each practice test in a test environment… Idk if it helped but thats what i did and it turned out well
@AllyssXx @pcaornkqeurest thank you for the help guys! Much appreciated
Anybody know how to raise a Math subscore? I always get a 16 on the math section Everytime I take it.
I have the same question. Any tips for Science and Reading?
Reading I always get pretty high in. Science I just recently improved significantly because I understand what I’m doing now. All you have to do is get the real ACT prep guide and through trial and error realize what your getting incorrect and repeatedly take the tests over and over until you improve on a particular section.
Also they have tips and tricks on YouTube for reading and science. They really help.
Is it only me that felt like the science was SUPER HARD this june? I also felt like there were at least one question per passage that required some prior knowledge. sadly, they were mostly physics, and I forgot them all from my soph year.
Seriously, my science score dropped 7 points from April ACT. I would have got the score I really desired for june act if I got the science score I got last time. Science is usually the easist along with my Math…
Here is my score breakdown:
Composite: 30(-1)
English: 31 (+2)
Math: 35 (0)
Reading: 25 (+1)
Science: 28 (-7)
Anyone felt like me?
@Godlskey For Math; Practice, Practice, Practice
Start with basic concepts as outlined in Chapter Reviews. Once you have grasp of the subject material then start on the test practices. Go back to the concepts if you stumble and hone on the review material. You can go through other resources available online as well.
But practicing is the bottomline.
I don’t know if this is the right thread for this type of question, but I wanted to get another opinion on my scores… (in no way am i trying to flaunt or brag so just bear with me)
April 2016: 33 C- 36 M, 34 E, 34 R, 27 S.
June 2016: 34 C- 36 M, 36 E, 36 R, 28 S.
Should I take the September ACT to try to bring my science scores up and get a 35? Had I gotten a 30 on science, I would have gotten a 35… I initially didn’t want to take it again because I’m a humanities major, but I feel like I can improve to get that 34 if I practice more on the science portion. Thoughts? Is that 35 worth it if I want to apply to ivies, private universities?
Anyone know what time they come out on Friday? Is it Thursday at midnight?
@ypaik1998 For what it’s worth, my science had a significant drop as well (-5).
Looks like I won’t be getting my desired score, which is a 32. The curve is too harsh and I will probably get like around a 29 or 30. I’ll definitely be retaking the ACT in September and hopefully get that 32. I feel like I tend to do better on tests with more generous curves than those with harsh ones (especially on science).
guys i got a 28 on the act but a 1400 on the sat…should i retake?
@HopefulGrad1 I think it will be more helpful to focus on other parts of your application now. You’re score is great.
@madeinnorway from what I’ve read, they will either be out at 1 a.m. Est. Or 9 a.m. Est.
