June SAT: Subject Test Physics Post-Test Discussion Thread

For the question that asked how a wire would affect a particle, earlier someone said it would be moved parallel to the wire however the question said that the charge was static, not moving, therefore if the charge has no relative velocity to the wire how can there be a magnetic force.

According to this chart 11 wrong is max for 800 (which correlates to a raw score of 61 I believe). Of course the exact curve for June’s test won’t be known for a couple weeks.

hey, I plan on taking physics next year and our high school course does not really cover all the topics needed for sat subject test.

What is the best way to prepare for the test? Which prep book would you recommend? Other resources?

I was thinking going over a prep book over the summer might help. Don’t know if this is a good idea or should i just read an actual textbook.

Thanks and good luck with your june test.

I thought it was rather difficult. I knew I would suffer but this took it to a different levels. In the end I felt that I had to relax more, when that happened I got the solution a lot faster. Nevertheless, I am NOT looking forward to taking this again. This has to constitute as some form of torture (voluntary torture, but torture nonetheless).

What prep book did you use?

I basically self-studied with some awesome help from the Sparknotes guide. That was a HUGE help. The only problem with it is that it can confuse you from time to time (it assumes you KNOW something already sometimes from previous chapters) and the practice questions are too easy compared to the acutal SAT II Physics questions. I suggest doing what I failed to do: study with the Sparknotes help and do a LOT of practice tests. I didn’t do the latter and regret it.

okay thanks…I am also thinking about buying the pr prep book since some say it helps.

My opinion was that this was an extremely easy test, I personally skipped two questions due to time constraints.

(easy to hard)
