Just back from Broadway: MT folks, make sure you can dance!!!!!

Interesting discussion.
Yes, it is true that all programs that hold audition want students who can sing, dance, act, sparkle, connect, etc. Not everyone fits the bill. Many programs are happy to have folks that fit most of their criteria - and show some promise in the areas that need work. I do believe some programs value voice over dance ability - you should not audition for those programs. You want to be trained as closely as possible to be a triple threat performer - look for programs that do a good job at preparing you to have the best shot at having a career. Conversation about what is more important or more easily picked up is not going to help you. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses, and researching various programs strengths and weaknesses is what will help you.
Regarding the initial post - there continues to be many shows, like Memphis, that require tons of dance; but there are others shows, like Next to Normal, that require very little. The point is, be prepared to sing, dance, and act.

Agree with mtdog. Another thing to keep in mind is that in MT, in most cases, you will have to act and you will have to sing, but you will not always have to dance. So assess your strengths and weaknesses and train accordingly.

Not to disagree with one who agrees with me, but… As a person beginning to have a life in MT, I think it is more appropriate to say you need to sing and act, and nearly always need to dance as well. So cross train accordingly.
