Just Curious-- JHU vs. Which School? decisions

<p>i applied to jhu ED, and withdrew my applications from other schools when i got into hopkins, so i didnt really have a chance to apply to all the schools i wanted to and see if id get in or not. but i chose to apply ED to hopkins cause

  1. my family doesnt want me to go out of state (all the schools i applied to were in state)
  2. i’ll get full tuition here
  3. i’m hoping to go to its undergrad, giving me a boost (hopefully) on its med school (Which is what i really want)
  4. it’s a good school-in my opinion- when it comes to my major and what i want to do (neuroscience/premed)
    …that’s pretty much it, there are also other reasons that i can think of why hopkins wouldnt necessarily be my first choice if it wasnt for my parents, but that was my thinking process of how i chose hopkins in the first place, and why i’m going. :slight_smile: hope that helped</p>

<p>JHU vs. Stanford vs. Berkeley (out of state but chancellor and regent) vs. UT Austin
It’s pretty much between JHU and Stanford, and I’m 99.999% sure on Stanford. It would’ve been 100% had I not been acceped to the BME major at Hopkins.</p>

<p>I’m undecided between JHU, Georgetown and Berkeley. I just visited both Gtown and JHU and I’m not closer to a decision. This is going to be a tough choice. Any advice?</p>

<p>undecided… JHU, Berkeley, SD (med program pending) and Stanford (waitlisted, which means pretty much rejected)… but my parents don’t wanna pay for JHU … but i don’t really feel like going to berk or SD… <em>sigh</em> so stressful… i hate arguing with my parents</p>

<p>I love california, but Brandeis is giving me so much money! And then there is JHU(didn’t think i had a shot w/ my incoherent $10 essay).</p>

<p>Is JHU-BME worth passing up the cali sunshine and the Brandeis Finaid?!?</p>

<p>I’m trying to decide between JHU, Northwestern, Oberlin, and UCLA. At each of these places I am either double majoring or was accepted to a double degree program.</p>

<p>For JHU, I was accepted to the JHU/Peabody Conservatory double degree program, which is something I’ve dreamed about getting into for years. It is by far the most prestegious combination that I’m considering, and certainly the most exciting musically. However, I received no financial help at all, and I’m not sure how strong it is in my academic interest. I have some checking to do.</p>

<p>For Northwestern, I was accepted into their Arts and Sciences/Music double degree program. It sounds really exciting, I have friends who go there who love it, and it is very strong in all of my academic interests. However, it’s just as expensive as JHU/Peabody, and I got no financial aid there either.</p>

<p>For Oberlin, I was also accepted into their double degree program. I received $12,000 a year in scholarships ($60,000 over 5 years), and I love the small size and how the city is a half hour away if I need it. However, one of my advisors says it’s only good for instrumentalists and weak in vocal performance, which would be my musical major.</p>

<p>For UCLA, I would be double majoring. I received a $20,000 music scholarship, but it has all sorts of strings attached. It’s clearly the best price out of the bunch, but I’m worried that the strings attached to the scholarship would create too much of a conservatory environment (i.e. no time for any electives, let alone two majors), which is not something I want.</p>

<p>Vanderbilt gave me 37,000 in financial aid, NYU 16,000. I have yet to get a package from JHU</p>

<p>I think this is a tough decision. Berkeley is a large university with the most academic options/courses to pick from- but how easy will it be to get into all the classes you want at Berkeley? You’re not going to receive as much attention at Berkeley as you would at a smaller private school. </p>

<p>I also recently visited Georgetown and Johns Hopkins. I preferred the neighborhood near Georgetown and Washington, DC offers more than Baltimore. However, I preferred Johns Hopkins’ campus over Georgetown’s and feel that Hopkins is a stronger school academically- not just in science & engineering, but in the humanities too. I also like the fact that JHU is not religiously affiliated, JHU’s P/F first semester (and other P/F options thereafter), the lack of a core/academic freedom, and the access to Peabody (JHU’s music school).</p>

<p>You may want to visit Johns Hopkins again during Spring Fair- you’ll be amazed how the campus is transformed into an amusement park! I actually visited Georgtown twice and the second time, it somehow seemed less appealing. If you decide to come to Hopkins let me know. I’ll be a freshman in the fall.</p>

<p>hopkins vs. cornell vs. pitt honors
big scholarship at pitt, nothing at hopkins or cornell but money’s not really that big of an issue b/c my parents will pay for where i want to go, but if i go to pitt they’ll help me out a lot with medical school otherwise i’m on my own for that. So i don’t know what to take. i’m afraid if i go to pitt i won’t be able to get into med school. Advice?</p>

<p>I am going to TCNJ or Lehigh over Johns Hopkins. JHU seems very difficult, lol. I want to get into grad school, and don’t know if that will happen at Johns Hopkins. I’ve been told I won’t succeed there. My parents also seem to think I won’t have fun at Johns Hopkins.</p>

<p>collegiate, some people want to have a little fun in their lives. working 24/7 in a cutthroat competitive environment is not my idea of fun. what whatscooking said makes sense to me.</p>

<p>I don’t know if I’d give up Hopkins name, education and prestige for a misconception… but hey, everything i know and have heard about Hopkins is positive.</p>

<p>I want to do environmental engineering and ecology/earth and atmospheric sciences. Possibly chemistry and chemical engineering. I think hopkins is the best for those programs out of those three schools…</p>
