Hi all,
I just got accepted for fall 2010, and I was looking at The View to live at since it is close to campus and apparently safe. Anyone know anything about it? Also, basically where do I go from here after being accepted?
Thanks so much in advance,
Alex

Congrats! Here’s a good place to start …

[University of Maryland - New Student Orientation](http://www.orientation.umd.edu/transferoverview.html)

congrats! Are you a transfer or an incoming freshman? If you’re a freshman, tell us your story. If you’re a transfer, can you say what your college GPA is before transferring??? We have very little info here about what they look for on transfers. Thanks!

I am a transfer from UMBC. My GPA from high school was awful, it was a 2.95 WEIGHTED. I didn’t take school too seriously, so I ended up at UMBC and didn’t have a prayer in the world of getting into CP. First semester of UMBC I got a 3.3, applied to CP and they wanted spring grades. In Spring I got a 3.5, sent my transcript, and I finally got accepted today woooooo! Hope this helps, it really shows that if you mess up in high school that first year of college is a second chance.

Awesome. Good job with your grades…keep up the good work at UMD! This should certainly be good news for people looking to transfer!

The View is an apartment building just off campus. It’s basically the most expensive place you could possibly live but it is supposed to be pretty nice.

The building is entirely students but is not affiliated with the University. It has a parking garage underneath and I think you get parking with your apartment. They have strict visitor rules, everyone must be signed in. Rooms are priced based on the type and- of course- the view. They just built a second building, The View 2, that pretty must destroyed the view from the original View building.

The View is on Route 1 which is very busy. It can be hard to get in and out of during traffic because there is a slightly awkwardly placed traffic light. It is near a McDonalds, a few other student apartment buildings (University House and Parkland), a liquor store, a shopping center with some other restaurants, and there is bus stop right out front.

Campus is right behind the building and there is a path to access campus. It goes through some woods and is considered a dangerous path but I walked it many times at all hours (as a small, unaccompanied, female) and never had any problems. The path puts you on the edge of North Campus so its probably a 20 minute walk to the center of campus. There is also a University Shuttle that you can take to campus.

A friend of mine said he pays 750 a month in rent for an apartment with two single bedrooms. I’m fairly sure that was per person. (But if anyone else is sure of the price, definitely say something)

My S lived at the View last year and loved it. He is going to live there this coming year as well. His apartment is furnished and has 4 single bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a common area and an eat-in kitchen. His rent is about $880 a month. That is certainly more expensive than the dorm he was in as a sophomore, but since the apartment has a kitchen (and he can cook!) the $$ spent on meals is considerably less. He has made a lot of friends there. In fact he just got back from CP where many of his View friends got together for a weekend. Seems like a good option for you to consider. Good luck!
