Just got final SAT scores... where should i start looking?

Both UVA and UNC would be reaches, but worth looking at.

UVA and UNC are tough for OOS students. What is CR+M on SAT? UofSC has beautiful new high tech journalism building and good program. Also pretty generous with aid that reduces or waives OOS tuition rate.

Why is it your “final” SAT score? I wouldn’t even begin to regard any of my kids’ SAT scores as “final” until they’ve exhausted reasonable opportunities to break 1400 CR+M.

A bit colder, but Michigan would be in line with UVA and UNC. Tough to get into, but worth applying to. Michigan has a top-rated political science department and the Michigan Daily is a respected student newspaper.

This is my final SAT score because this was the last test of the old format of the SAT. I looked into the new SAT but I really do not like the format and scored poorly on many practice tests. I took an ACT with no prep, and am still waiting for that score.

Also - how are my chances at getting into Barnard?

Start a thread in the Chances forum for that question.

Hello!
Honestly, I wouldn’t remove any schools off your list for a 2030 SAT score. The SAT ISN’T everything, in fact, colleges are beginning to understand just how pointless of a measure it is to determine success in college. Your GPA is fantastic, and many admissions officers believe a transcript can tell a student’s academic potential way more than an SAT score. Apply wherever you like, don’t be afraid to apply to the reach schools, you never know what can happen!

I think that your GPA and test scores put you within the range of accepted students at both UNC-CH and UVA; but you might have a better chance with UVA because it accepts more OOS applicants than UNC-CH (27% vs. 18%).

Have you considered College of William & Mary? It is strong in international studies (it also has a joint degree program with University of St. Andrews in Scotland), and has good school spirit with D-1 sports.

As someone who applied to Barnard this year, I would definitely advise you to apply. You have a great GPA, and while your SAT isn’t at the very top of their range, Barnard doesn’t weigh standardized testing as heavily other schools and has a very holistic admissions process. Obviously no one can predict the future, but you’ve definitely got a shot
