<p>I don’t see why the name or patches have to come off. Give it to the next coat drive going on. They’re usually this time of year. No need to stress over this.</p>
<p>You wouldn’t hesitate to pitch or donate Happy Meals toys if you didn’t want them. What’s the difference here? You don’t want it and it doesn’t have any sentimental value. The fact that you paid $xx for it is irrelevant; it’s sunk cost.</p>
<p>I would at least keep the letter itself. We came across my grandpa’s track letter after he passed away this summer and it was a really nice thing to find… it may or may not have meant anything to him or his parents but it meant something to us when we found it. But if you don’t want to, then don’t.</p>
<p>If there isn’t a way to donate it through the school or something (maybe her coach would pass it in to someone for her?), maybe giving it away on craigslist or something would be an option. I understand not still being attached to the jacket.</p>
