Kitchen Cabinet Brands

No one has mentioned Omega cabinets. Does anyone have experience with them?

The cabinets in the second home we bought this year are Cuisines Laurier and they are beautifully made as well as being practical and intelligently designed.

Ah, Laurel’s Kitchen. Cute!

Mine are Aristokraft. I like them a lot.

Our builder installed Merillat in our new house 12 years ago. They were JUNK. Perhaps they also have a better line. Someone upstream was pleased. However, these drawer boxes were stapled, drawer runners were poor, poor quality hinges–overall just poor. We redid our kitchen at year 8 and that seems absurd to me.

twinmom - my sister used Omega cabinets when she re-did her kitchen about 2-3 years ago. She loves them and they look still look perfect (although, to be truthful, she doesn’t cook much). I’ve used her kitchen a bit and they seem to be high quality and function well. They have that cool self-closing feature on the drawers which I really like. I have custom cabinets in my house and honestly, I think hers look and operate better. The color/design she chose goes perfectly with her house and furnishing. She is happy with her choice.

sryrstress - wow! I’m so sorry about your bad experience with Merillat. They must have been a different line than what we have. I don’t know if the difference is ours were not builder per se. We built this house and went through a kitchen design center not affiliated with a builder, just as you would if you were renovating. Our corners are actually dovetailed like furniture. The runners are on the outer edge of the bottom and run like a dream. We’ve never had to adjust the hinges or heard them squeak. These were not top of the line either…the price could have gone up exponentially.

Believe me, there are things in this house I would choose differently…I wish we’d put more quality into some things and question the cost we put in others, but I love my kitchen. It is a shame that the same brand seems to have such a wide variation in quality.

Here’s a thread that you may find helpful:

My impression is that Omega and Woodmode are at about the same price point and are both well built cabinets. Omega is supposedly good for its versatility - you can mix and match from their custom, semi custom and their Dynasty (more budget friendly) lines and they will build just about anything in any configuration. The finish is comparable, but some say Woodmode is more refined in terms of matching of the grain and that customer service is better.

That long thread I linked to earlier also mentions Omega in detail in several posts.

Thanks, everyone. We finally decided on Medallion cabinets and put our order in yesterday!
