Kitchen Counters: Cluttered or Not?

“A friend solved this by hanging white boards on the inside doors of a couple eye-level cabinets. She can use magnets on them and write on them.”

I’ve done something similar with post-its for phone #'s I don’t use very often but when I do I need them immediately - like the neighbor’s.

I know I could put them in my phones directory but I’m too lazy.

Last year someone mentioned becoming a FlyLady follower and that it would help with our clutter. I never made it past Day 1, but that first lesson about “shine your sink” every night really does work. Here is the link. I think you will either love her or think she is nuts.
The other process that helps me stay organized is to do “one minute jobs”. If I see something that needs putting away or cleaned and it will take one minute or less then I just do it.

Right now my counters are being taken over by fresh garden tomatoes!

This is my kitchen:
All should be inside, otherwise they get dusty. Outside (on counter) devices: TV, toaster, toaster oven, bananas in plastic bag in a bowl (cannot refrigirate bananas) and any other fruit that needs to ripen, tomatoes ripen inside better anyway. All other stuff is inside. Whatever does not fit, needs to be pitched. Did not allow to keep 2nd fridge either. Food does not fit - do not buy anymore. No separate freeszer either. We do have large basement and 2.5 cars garage. Garage is for cars, not kitchen stuff, basement is unfortunately turned in to electronics warehouse (I have to push harder to pitch all those computers, TV’s, printers and phones and spare parts fot them with connection wires and whatever else).

Six things on our counter-coffee maker, salt/pepper grinders near cooktop, paper towel dispenser, hand soap, fruit bowl.

Coffee maker, mail, box of dog biscuits (bribes), toaster, dish drainer (no dishwasher here!), “mug” tree, spice rack. Chopping board. Large bird if no one is looking and he climbs up there to fling silverware out of the dish drainer.

Literally LOL! I never considered that option!
