I know it’s anecdotal, but in 30 years of wood floors we never had a water leak, and homeowners insurance pays if you do have one; I think they pay because it’s rare.
Not very, in my experience.
Our whole house has solid oak wood floors except for two bedrooms and most of the bathrooms. I don’t know the word for it, but it was all done on site-not prefinished or engineered.
It does not dent or scratch.
Swedish finish?
We have wood floors and I hate hate hate having it in the kitchen, open floor homes are so overrated LOL. I would pick textured tile or finished concrete if I had the only opinion. I want my kitchen to be functional, if I planned it, it would have a drain in the floor so I could swash it clean. Kitchens in most newer homes are for show and not use.
I’ve had hardwoods in my last three kitchens, totally over 25 years. I’ve never had an issue with slipping, warping, or any other issue. So much easier on the back than standing on tile. And I’m a cook. The kitchen has always been the most used room of our homes.
I don’t understand the connection between wood floors in a kitchen and the kitchen not being used. I’ve had wood floors in my kitchen for the past 24 years, and I cook almost every night. Our floors have held out spectacularly well. Both homes were new when we bought them.
This isn’t responsive to the type of floor question, but wanted to mention if you have a wood floor in the kitchen, and you have a freezer with an automatic ice maker, if you go on vacation, you might want to empty the ice container and flip the lever so it will remain empty. Otherwise, if you lose power while you are away and the ice melts, your wood floor could get stained. Learned this one the hard way.
I like the vinly in our first house. I only reluctantly let DH choose wood for kitchen/hall when we built this house (in fact, I made him agree to take care of it … which he did first few years til we got a housekeeper).
Our kitchen oak wood floor is 26 years old, and we might refinish it again (3rd time) when we do major kitchen renovation. We sweep it and use bona to clean, but no other maintenance.
HINT - A neighbor coached me to use small throw rugs at kitchen sink and fridge (with water/ice). That has prevented water damage,
