Kohl's math

Generally, you can’t return items that generated Kohls Cash while Kohls Cash is still being given out without surrending some of the Kohls Cash. Since you have about $47 that did not count towards Kohls Cash you should be OK. If it is an even exchange, it should not matter that the BOGO was in effect.

If you ever need to return items that generated Kohls Cash while Kohls Cash is still being issued, return the items for a merchandise credit. You will not need to surrender any Kohls Cash. The amount of the credit will be the sales price of the item(s) less the 30%.

WHy don’t they just lower their prices every day??

Oh yeah, JCPenney did that and it backfired :)

It always cracks me up when you check out at Kohl’s and they tell you how much you have save and circle the amount on the receipt. I tend to look at them inquisitively and say whoever pays full price here? They usually smile nod Or laugh

If you return items and still have Kohl’s cash out, they change it in the computer; so when you do surrender it, it reads the corrected amount. I just return somethings that dropped my Kohl’s cash down to $10 from $20. The Kohl’s money still read $20 to me but on the computer it came up $10. Kohl’s has that figured out. And don’t you hate it when you get only a 15 % coupon in the mail- I always leave that one home and try for a new one at the register.

OK- so I went to Kohls equipped with my 30% off coupon and a $10 off if you spend $30 (these show up on our newspaper). bought my DH 2 Chaps shirts and an adorable baby gift (oshosh outfit) and had spend (before tax) only $47. So— grabbed the obligatory Godiva candy bar… BUT- I had my 30% off coupon so it wouldn’t quite take me over the top. Alas, I had to buy 2 candy bars to get to $51. And tomorrow I can spend the $10 kohls cash and still use my $30% off. Dont know what I need, but I guess I will look.

But if you only spend $10, you won’t need the coupon. They take the Kohl’s cash off first.

Thats true. But dont know what I’d buy for $10. I’ve occasionally done that and ended up with some useless thing. So I f I find something for say $15, it’ll cost me 50 cents. BTW I asked about their extending the kohls cash. She said as long as the cash register will accept it they can do it, and she thinks, especially with people travelling during the summer, they make that happen.

No. If you buy something for $15, it will cost you $3.50. Plus tax. Which is still a good deal, but not as good as if they take the 30% off first.

Oh yes, you are right. I usually manage to combine deals and coupons so stuff is essentially free.

Close enough.

I think I’ve decided to exchange and use my $30 for something else. And I’m going to quit thinking about it because my brain hurts now.

My FAVORITE kohls story i (Ive told before) is that I had some Kohls cash to spend and didnt need anything. My DS lived in town at the time and needed a blender. HE picked an Oster that was originally $54 on sale for about $34.99 or something. So with my 30% off and kohls cash it came to $7 and change. BUT when the receipt printed it had a $10 rebate!! So ultimately they paid me $3 and change to buy it. Later got my DH one of the hot air poppers, for free with the kohls cash.

Onward, exactly. 15% off coupon. Instead of 20 or 30? Into the trash it goes! I’ll scratch a % at the store!!

That’s actually what I did this time. I was thrilled when I got the 30 since I had spent $284!!!

If I only get 15 or 20, I’ll also just go online and order it. You can use google to find the code for 30% and use it online anytime.

Another Kohl’s fact is that if you order from their kiosk in the store, the shipping is free or at least is was the last time I used it. It is great if you find some clothing item you like but your size isn’t in the store.

Is the point if you buy the candy bars to make up the difference – and presumably eat them – that you will then need to buy even more clothes because the old ones don’t fit?

I am not sure how Kohl’s even makes money. It must have something to do with the way their cashiers obnoxiously hawk the credit card.

I may be late, but as a cashier at Kohl’s, I would do the Even Exchange. As previously mentioned, you will get to keep your Kohl’s Cash. Also, at my store and many other stores in my Philadelphia area district, we honor expired Kohl’s Cash. I’ve honored Kohl’s Cash from as far back as 2009!

I finally figured out that it isn’t an “either/or” situation. I returned one pair of shorts and received just under $14 for them. Then I did an even exchange for the BOGOF item. This did not reduce my Kohl’s cash so I used that to buy another pair of shorts for $18, plus two shorts for me. That came to about $2 less discount so maybe $1.50.

So I basically received cash back, added two tops for me and came out happy, if not a little confused.

I think you did the right thing by exchanging the BOGOF item and returning the other. I always tend to use the kohls cash on things for myself. I can always use some new underwear or socks!

Also, I understand that you don’t get store credit if you return something you bought with Kohls cash so I always try to buy something I know I will not return (such as undies) AND I put it on a separate receipt. One time I got messed up when I returned something on a receipt where the KC was used and they were only giving me a partial credit because of it, even though I think I had spent a fair bit more than the KC. This was a recent change in their policy.

Who sits around and thinks this all up?

I have the time and the inclination to shop this way, but it must frustrate the heck out of most people so much that they refuse to shop there.

I actually had to look at the coupon, the Kohl’s cash and the sales flyers to find the best day to do it on since the various pieces of paper all had different valid dates and only overlapped by a few days

So I went back today, got 2 more shirts for DH and with sale, coupon and logos cash, cost $24. But they gave me another $10 promotional gift coupon !
