<p>My 17 year old is updated in CPR and first aid- as she is employed at a camp.
She also wants to be certified as a life guard, but the testing is extremely rigourous, and she is still practicing to begin the program.
( A friend * is * a lifeguard with the city.</p>
<p>My older D has also taken first aid several times ( we even had to take a cpr class before we could bring her home from the hospital 25 years ago), although I don’t think she has recently. She lives with a EMT/paramedic though ;)</p>

<p>I hated all the garbage we had to go through to get our drivers licenses in Germany, but one thing I thought was a good idea in general is that everyone must pass a Red-Cross taught first aid course. It was a total of 8 hours (3 nights), including a CPR training. (It was stupid for me because I spoke no German and didn’t understand anything they said, and I’m an RN. The fact that I was required to sit through the courses was silly. But I was the first to pass the CPR - my H was second.)</p>
<p>The other thing I like is that every German car is required by law to have - and therefore is sold with - a standard issue first aid kit. It has an emergency blanket, flashers, a first aid booklet, and other typical things. And every German driver is required to stop and administer aid if they come across an accident with injuries - no excuses for not knowing what to do, since you have to pass the course.</p>
