Ladies, what products do you use in your hair?

Salon owners are supposed to ensure workers are using protective gear, just as any other business owner where workers are exposed to hazardous materials, must make sure proper safety procedure is followed.
Not saying they do, especially where the owner/ workers may not be fluent with English or familiar with the law.

I want to add a second thumbs up for the Devacurl products and also for the naturally curly website. Honestly, I think that site gets almost as much traffic as this one!

I also use some of the Ouidad products, especially the climate control gel. I think it’s stronger than the Deva gels so it’s useful in high humidity. The key to success with all of these things is to leave the hair be while it’s drying, hard as that is.

Thank you all for your advice! I did “oil” my hair with moroccan oil a few times this week and did not feel the need to shampoo in between. I think I just need to distribute it at the ends first and work my way up to the roots. Today I washed and conditioned with Devacurl no poo. My hair feels wonderful.

Anyone have a recommendation for an oil treatment? My son’s hair is awful. He has such terrible dandruff that it looks like it’s snowing when he shakes his head. Over the years, his dermatologist has given him a script for a special shampoo to control the dandruff. I don’t think it’s very effective because he still has dandruff. As a consequence, he doesn’t shampoo often. But this then creates terrible bed head.

The problem isn’t the prescription; it’s just that he hasn’t found anything that works. It’s not the hair so much as his scalp. So sore and incredibly dry. I think he should use a hot oil treatment, but which one?

Can’t resist posting. Nah-nah… I have perfectly straight, fine hair.

Used to have tons of it but postmenopausal thinning makes it average density. I can’t wear ponytails easily because most things slip right out (a real problem back in my college long hair food service job days). I wear it short with the dark blonde hair covering the white hair at my temples- no layered cuts for me in recent years. I use a combined shampoo/conditioner (dandruff control) every three days. I blow dry my hair for volume when I wash it and can’t believe all the time I spent sleeping with curlers in HS to gat a wave that would wilt in humidity. My sister had dark brown, thick naturally curly/wavy hair- the opposite of mine. I heard all of the frizz complaints in my youth.

So- what works for me won’t for you guys.

PS- we like the Pert dandruff shampoo/conditioner. Better smelling I think than the Head and Shoulders brand. Check online (or on the bottles) for known dandruff treatment chemicals and see which one works best.

I have always had thick, wavy hair prone to frizz and I’d live in a tent before giving up professional hair smoothing treatments every 3-4 months. I started with Keratin years ago but there are better options now which pose no risk whatsoever to the stylist or client. My stylist uses a vegan product which uses amino acids rather than keratin and contains no formaldehyde called Nano Sleek.

I’m surprised that there are still places that use the formaldehyde products when there are better options which work just as well. I still use the sodium-free shampoo and hair products you have to use post treatment.

Have straight hair that needs a perm to hold a curl. Stopped perming it a few decades ago and am happy with my straight hair. Just use any shampoo we have around that isn’t too scented and water. H has oily scalp and tends to have eczema on his scalp. He uses regular nutrogena shampoo and Tgel coaltar nutrogena shampoo to keep the itch at bay. He also uses some gel or other in styling his hair.

I use WEN.

I have curly hair, and a lot of it. I have my hair colored and highlighted so I use products that will protect the color as well as nourish my hair. I tend to vary the products I use, and I only use products that I buy at a salon. I do notice the difference if I happen to be travelling, forget my shampoo and use the one that the hotel provides. So, I just checked my bathroom and these are the ones I currently have:

L’Oreal:
Lumino Contrast Shampoo
Vitamino Color Shampoo
Fiberceutic replenishing masque

Eufora:
Moisture Intense Shampoo and conditioner

Pureology:
Anti-fade Shampoo

Aveda:
Be Curly Shampoo and conditioner

Those are all for in the shower.

For after the shower:

Most days I just use my Aveda Brilliant Retexturizing Gel, scrunch and go.
But I also have other products that I use occasionally.

Eufora:
Curl Spray Revitalizer
Beautifying Serum - love this! It’s like an oil and can also be used on skin.
Sculpture Styling Glaze
Leave-in Repair Treatment

I was my hair daily and even with the color and highlights, it doesn’t dry out when I use good products.
