Sorry for the delayed response. In addition to confirming what sixstringsrocker said above, I have a couple of things to add.

First, ski trips are available via 2 clubs. The Ski Team is one (which is mostly racing), and the Snowboarding Club (which is noncompetitive/recreational) is the other. (also the snowboarding club welcomes skiers). You can sign up for either one of those, or both, in the fall. There will be an activities fair early in the semester, which is a great time to sign up.

On the weekends, I have found that people tend to involve themselves with clubs and other activities. For example, someone in the Lafayette Outdoors Society would go on a camping/rafting trip with the club, and people on the ski team might go up to Camelback Mountain for the weekend. What people do on the weekends tends to depend on their extracurricular interests.

As for parties, just read sixstringsrocker’s post above, as that’s accurate. I would not call Lafayette a party school any more than your average college.

If you want me to clarify anything, just let me know.

thanks for the two replies. Actually I board but I asked about a ski club because it seems like more schools have ski clubs - a boarding club is better for me!
I wanted to get a feel for the weekend life since the school is so small and the town seems like it’s very small and that not accessible if you don’t have a car.

As a new academic year approaches, I am going to open a “Lafayette College Questions and Answers Part II (2012-13)” forum. This is to separate questions by the academic year in which they were asked/answered. It is also to prevent this 1 forum from becoming extremely long over the next few years.

I request that all questions you have about Lafayette be posted in this part II forum, because as of tomorrow I will no longer be monitoring part I.

Taylor, you’ve been quite helpful. I am an international applicant needing full funding to go to college. My college GPA is not really high, though I have SAT 1 and 2 scores of 2380 and 2400. I have quite some extra-curriculars as well. Can I be a Marquis scholar?

Hi! Just posting in this thread to get it back in public view. If you have any questions you would like to ask me, please do so in “lafayette college questions and answers part ii”

I’m an international student from India, and I’m planning to do my Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering/Computer Science at Lafayette. I’m new to the concept of LAC’s, so I don’t know much about them. I really like the feel and the system in LACs and am planing to apply to Lafayette, mostly ED, but have a few questions about it. I’d be very much obliged if you could answer these.

In what way will an Engineering major at Lafayette differ from one from a university, apart from the fact that there is greater emphasis on humanities, social sciences and language? Is it considered any weaker?

Will my job and internship opportunities be the same at LACs(specifically at those above) as they will at universities? Will I get good jobs?(Big Silicon Valley companies; Google, Facebook; the like)

Value/Respect/Prestige of the degree. I don’t mean I want people to say “Wow” when I say the name of my college. I want to know if the degree from Lafayette is valued by employers and grad schools.

Undergrad research opportunities and facilities/resources. How are they?

Entrepreneurial culture? I know this varies, but on an average.

Social Life. How is it? Are people friendly? Me being international, will I fit in? Is Easton fun?(Given of course you have a couple of friends.)
