I would recommend the Staybridge Suites Rochester University that just opened across the river from the U of R (short drive to RIT), probably too new to be on any rating sites.

I’m glad you decided to “out” the hotel. Many of their reviews on TripAdvisor are over-the-top excellent, mostly written by Rochester residents and sounding like paid advertisements. When you can find the time after dealing with all this, you’d be doing many travelers a service by posting an honest review.

For those looking for a good hotel in Rochester, I usually stay at The Strathallan. It’s a lovely place in a nice area and it has a terrific restaurant. The rooms are different sized suites with a kitchen and the staff is excellent.

My d is senior at the U of R and I both my h and I have traveled to Rochester on business over the years. We generally stay at the Doubletree and have also stayed at the Hampton Inn North, Courtyard Marriott, and the Hyatt. Years ago we stayed at the Holiday Inn at the Airport. Once my husband stayed at the Homewood Suites(?) not certain but a Hilton affiliate- one exit further away from the U of R than Doubletree.

Most people coming to Rochester and staying downtown would be better served by staying at the Hyatt. The Strathallan is nice and in a “nicer” area, East Avenue, but I think it lack any personality or character. The Inn on Broadway, the nearest to the Eastman School of Music is a small, boutique hotel with a very unique feel. Any of the newer chain places in Henrietta ( a suburb of Rochester) are quite nice- the Holiday Inn near the airport has seen better days though…If anyone is coming up here to look at schools, feel free to PM me and I’ll try to provide any info you need.

Would have to disagree with you there. Have you been there since the redecorating took place? I think it’s actually quite a unique place with lots of personality, and unlike a lot of traditional chain hotels. I stay there because I’m usually in the city for theatre-related things and my actor friends on national tours stay there, and it’s very convenient to the Aud.
