laptop?

I work for IS and I know a couple of people that have bought Macs for various reasons - some because they’re just “Mac snobs,” and some who find it more useful to do their work (one of my friends who works for the newspaper bought one because she needs it for the design software).

To me, it doesn’t make much sense, because IS gives you a computer that pretty much does everything you’d need it to - it comes with Photoshop as well as about any academic program you can imagine - but if you want to do it, it’s really up to you. However, should anything go wrong with the Mac, IS won’t really be able to help you fix it. If you’re still thinking about it, I’d go the laptop route - freshman rooms aren’t too large.
