It also depends on your schools security policy. Here if your computer is detected spreading viruses or trojans, it’ll lose its IP and be blocked until you can show that you fixed the machine.

still, i don’t like desktops. they take up too much space.

After going to my friend’s house’s and seeing how they can study on their bed, or take it downstairs, etc. I don’t think I could ever go back to only having a desktop. It’s so confining.

it really wudn’t matter if we got a laptop or a desktop…
in the end…we’d get used to anything…
Most ppl. who used desktops/laptops heavily in school…made it easily through college by using public computers…
so it really depends on whether you want to spend or not!

I’m bringing my laptop with me because I want the flexibility to either study at my desk, in my bed, or out on the grass!

i would prefer a desktop, but the college I’m going to requires a lap top. grr. does anyone have any suggestions on getting the best comp for the least money? i’ve never bought a laptop, and don’t know what to expect

its because of hackers and such that I use a Mac (among many, many other reasons)

Right now… IMO… The best choice is the Dell 1505…Thats what i have settled on. I was kind of going back and forth between that and the Alienware m5500. The Dell however comes with much more coverage and a better warranty all for about the same price as the Alienware. Also, I want to cut back on my gaming. The 1505 just looked like it will be better for a student on the go where accidents happen as opposed to…Alienware’s “it breaks sorry can’t do anything because it’s not covered under our limited warranty that is really expensive” …Thats what i think…

If you know for sure you’re getting a laptop, is it worth it to blow 2000 on, lets say, a tablet PC, or would it be better to just pay 500-800 for a not-so-good, but cheaper one?

I’m kind of thinking the more expensive one, because typically if it’s too cheap, then it’s not as good, right? :

Realistically, what do you need a powerful computer for?? Unless one of your classes requires your computer to be powerful to run some academic related program, what else would you need it for? Typing papers, doing research and perhaps some entertainment like IMing or watching a movie or something. All things that don’t require a $2000 system.

Me, I don’t have a computer in my dorm. I know that if I did, I wouldn’t get 90% of the work that I get done now when I cruise on down to the library because I would be constantly be playing poker or IMing people…

makemehappy-you get what you pay for. So the more money u pay, the higher the quality. Big exception: acers.

acers = exception as in it’s cheap but good quality? Or expensive and bad quality?

overpriced and atrocious quality.

How are Acers overpriced?

Only the Dell E1505 is comparable in price…

They certainly aren’t worth what they’re priced
that kind of overpriced

Acers are the low end version of dell

Get a dell E1505 if you are planning on buying the acer. Dell is better than acer

Okay…if I’m thinking of getting a tablet PC, which one is the best price IF we’re taking into account whether or not it’s a good PC as well?

A list of the different kinds available:

which do you guys think is better: mac or pc?

Can any Dell users give some advice on what notebook to buy? I like the Inspiron 630M, 710M, and E1505. My school recommends the Latitude models (ex: D620) because they are built with standard parts. Thanks. (:

Macs are looking better and better…Especially with bootcamp…Just on the pricey side and not as customizeable as other Notebooks
