Large Tuition Increases for OOS Students

We’re in a tough spot because DS’15 attends UMN. DS’18 has been visiting since his brother started and fell in love with it.

He is accepted into the prestigous DAAP co-op program at University of Cincinnati with a 24K scholarship but he continues to be fixated on UMN… We can afford it (no debt) but I’m really having a hard time with the value.

Also I’m concerned that the the overall quality and diversity of the university will go down. I understand why they flicked the switch to make it more affordable for in-state students - it’s the right thing to do. BUT most of the other similar level Big 10 (other than UW, UIUC, UMich - but let’s be real as they are all higher ranked) offer some type of GPA/ACT scholarship. I wonder if they can continue to attract high quality students without more incentives…
