My daughter is a trouble threat I suppose. She has extensive dance and theater training. Her greatest asset is her classical soprano voice however. A fact that frustrates her as roles featuring sopranos are few and far between these days. Can she get training to enhance all these skills? Where? Thanks again!
Triple that is haha. She’s not much trouble thankfully.

Barbara:
My D sounds like your D. My D has been described as a Golden Age soprano (think Shirley Jones in Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, etc). She is not a natural belter, and when in HS her voice teacher did not want to force her to learn and ruin her voice. But now halfway through college she is developing the belt voice, can sing more rock/pop, and is in her first professional production, Jesus Christ Superstar, this summer. A non-Golden Age role to be sure.
So there is no question your D will develop her voice in college,. That’s what they’re there for!
Oh that’s great! Yes, those are the roles my daughter is more suited for but she is having to belt now, as the lead in Once Upon A Mattress. Whew! So is your daughter in a BFA program? Thank you!
Yes she is a BFA MT program at BAll State.
I have another question!! Do you feel like she is getting a well-rounded education being in MT? I have read that slot of these programs require very few outside classes. I know Ball State is a great academic school so it may be different there. Thank you! Oh! And did you go to unifieds?
For the most part, if you go for a BA in MT rather than a BFA in MT, you will have more general education requirements.
My D is getting a well rounded education in the BFA program. She took AP calc in HS so that took care of her math requirement, and she took a college English course in HS so that took care of a lot of her English college requirement. But she still has some gen ed classes she has to take for the BFA and she has to take a honors college class every semester. So it’s not as much gen ed as you would take for the BA but pretty good for a BFA
My D also got a good general education background in her BFA program at Penn State. She actually transferred out of a conservatory program because she missed the academics and ended up being very happy at PSU. LIke jeffandann said, students probably get a little more GE in a BA program, but we felt she got a very well-rounded education.
