Latest wedding updates

Another MOS who wants to thank you for the generous gesture of sharing those lovely photos and your exciting plans. I am particularly waxing nostalgic over your choice of venue for the wedding.

DH and I married in the chapel at Columbia University, also nondenominational but more Gothic looking than yours. Sorry no digital photos to share. We had an unusual arrangement, with a rabbi and a priest officiating. They were a pair. The rabbi was a rebel who had started his own congretation in a little apartment near the East River and the priest was a Catholic newspaper journalist who lived near Penn Station and wanted us to know right off that he was also an actor. (“Didja see ‘Prizzi’s Honor?’ I was the priest in the opening scene.”) The two of them did a wonderful job. The rabbi had a cantor’s voice and sang the blessings, and the priest translated in a slight brogue (for effect I think). Both families were happy. Mazel Tov to you, Mollie. I think that every parent hopes that in addition to finding oneself and finding a career, a child will also find a partner to share the ups and downs of life.

Awww! So lovely! Very sweet pictures. :)

I just wish there were more of him looking at the camera - is he camera-shy? Adorable, though!!!   :)

What wonderful pictures - very fresh and happy!

(and doesn’t it sometimes feel like you need a degree from MIT to plan a wedding?)

Thank you so much for sharing, Mollie! He looks SO cute, and you make a lovely couple. You both have so much to look forward to, and I hope your wedding is the just the beginning of a long and loving marriage. Congratulations!

definitely 072,…

thank you for sharing. the flowers are beautiful, since I’m very partial to callas…
My DS just got engaged recently and set the date for June 08…now our fun begins
I will continue to follow your journey…best wishes…it looks wonderful!

Mollie,

Gosh, it seems to be going sooo fast but it’s all falling into place. the pictures of you and Adam are really wonderful. thanks for sharing

Congrats, Mollie…and thank you from yet another MOS who’s loving reading these reports (and seeing the pix) on your wedding plans!

A heads-up for you (or your dad): Make sure you check w/the hotel where you reserve rooms for your guests…some give favorable rates but also require that the rooms be paid for if they’re not reserved/used by a certain date…it happened to a group I work with here…it’s easy enough to avoid; you just have to watch out for it in “the fine print”…now that you know to watch for it, I’m sure it’ll be something you can work with quite easily…

Disney for your honeymoon!!! Heaven! Pure heaven!!! Do you know where at Disney you’ll stay? (It’s one of my personal favorite spots in the entire world!)…

All the best for nothing but joy and “smooth sailling” for you during your engagement, on your wedding day, during your honeymoon, and for lifelong!

Hugs–

“The date is September 15 of next year. I love Boston in autumn.”

My birthday. :)

I hope you get autumn - that’s early enough you might get summer instead.

PS cute pictures!

I like the one you picked for the paper too (#72). You make such a cute couple. You look so happy in picture #111. Very excited for you.

Beautiful. Brings back memories of my own 1985 wedding at the Yale chapel-I was not a student there, I was working there and one of the perks was using Dwight Chapel. Dwight also has an unbelievable organ and one of the grad music students played for like $50. The MIT chapel looks great…intimate and be there for a long time so you can do as we did and take your kids there one day…

Looks great Mollie!

You bringing this thread back to life stimulated me to check out places for a wedding here and possible narrow down on a date.

I’m hoping for April 7, 2007…the date is still open at the botanical gardens (<a href="http://www.olbrich.org/Conservatory/Olbrich’s%20Bolz%20Tropical%20Conservatory.htm">http://www.olbrich.org/Conservatory/Olbrich’s%20Bolz%20Tropical%20Conservatory.htm</a>) and it works great with my spring break and my sister’s spring break (not to mention get family together for Easter weekend)!

Wish me luck in actually pulling together a small wedding in less than 6 months while in the first year of a PhD program :p.

Loving the photos. 072 and its companions are definitely winners. I also love, love, love 096 and 100 (although not suitable for the newspaper announcement, would be great on your wall/table/mantel).

Thanks! I am really, really happy with the pictures – Adam has a really goofy-looking fake smile, and I was glad he was really smiling the whole time.

And to answer ariesathena’s question, yes, he is most definitely camera-shy, and shy in general, too. I don’t think my parents heard a full sentence out of him until about the third or fourth time they met him. (Of course, my dad doesn’t mind, as he’s shy too – when Adam asked my dad for permission to marry me over 4th of July, my dad just nodded, which of course made Adam even more afraid to talk to him…)

Oh, it definitely does in Boston. We started calling reception places August 2, and many of them were almost totally booked up for September 2007 already! I’ve gotten a jump on a lot of other things (flowers, dress, etc) because I am almost pathologically anal-retentive. :)

And congrats, too, to laxmom’s S! Lots of CC weddings!!

Well, Adam’s sister is working at Disney right now (she’s hoping to be Cinderella in a few months!), and she insists that the Wilderness Lodge is the best. I’m pushing for the lodge in the Animal Kingdom – there are giraffes right outside the hotel! – but we’ll have to see what we can agree on. I’m really glad we’re going to Disney – we went to the Bahamas this summer, and had a great time, but I think both of us will be a lot more comfortable when we don’t have to worry about spending lots of money on meals (we’re going to do one of the meal plans), transportation, etc.

Ophiolite, I think the botanical gardens would be a fabulous place for a wedding. If I were getting married back home in Ohio, I’d definitely want to do either the ceremony or the reception at the local botanical gardens. So beautiful!

And thanks again to everybody for your kind words. It’s fun to be engaged! Today at lunch we started talking about things for which we’ll want to register… Adam says we should register for parts of a Ferrari, and then he’ll put the whole car together at the end.

EDIT: I should note that the purpose of Adam’s look in #074 was that he was “trying to look like a sock model.” So in that one, at least, not looking at the camera was intentional.

LOL! Aw, he does look happier when looking at you instead of looking at the camera… then again, that’s how it should be. ;)

The Wilderness Lodge is my favorite - are you into the look of the Pacific Northwest? I especially liked it because there was so much to do at the hotel, and you could go to the Magic Kingdom by boat.

I have to disagree with your future sis in law and tell you that your instincts are right. Stay at the African themed lodge. The interior is quite spectacular. We’ve taken my sons to Disney World every other year since they were little because my parents live in Cocoa Beach and they have a time share that allows us to try different lodgings. The African one is the best, IMO. There is something sublime about watching giraffe, zebra and gazelle graze a few feet away as the sun is setting…sigh. There’s a large viewing area outside, but you can also see the animals from a lot of the rooms. The pool area there is also “in character” and cooler in every way than the pools in other parts of Disney World. Restaurants are excellent too — try the wines from South Africa. If not that one, I would recommend the Beach Club villas or the Yacht Club which have “beaches” and sailing etc. It’s great that you’ll be able to go while most kids are still in school. Better for the honeymoon atmosphere.

And even if you don’t end up staying at the Animal Kingdom, I would recommend you set aside an evening to eat dinner at one of the two nice restaurants there. You can time it so you can watch the game animals on the viewing deck until it’s dark and then go have dinner. It’s worth the trouble to get over there.

We were were in WDW fairly recently. I recommend eating dinner one night at the Coronado Springs Hotel at the Maya Grill. We found it to be excellent.

I enjoyed the pictures!

Oh Mollie, thanks for sharing! It is almost like being invited to the wedding. All the best to you and Adam.
