Believe it or not 10 X 10 is not big when you add in the appliances, and if you are like me where the kitty litter is along with the vacuum, swifter, laundry basket etc. It quickly feels like a 3 X 3.

I think the idea of a white subway tile on the lower portion of the walls sounds bright and fresh. I’d definitely choose glossy for the look you’re after. However, honestly, I’d rather wipe down a flat surface than a tiled surface any day. It’s just easier for me. If that’s a consideration for you, another option would be glossy scrubbable paint on the lower portion of the wall with a chair rail and different paint above if you don’t want the whole thing glossy.

Our laundry room is one of the things I like about the house. It’s on the first floor, right off the kitchen, with a huge window overlooking the front yard. The room is about 8 by 10. I got a sample board of the wall tile and am leaning towards the gloss, which does reflect the light better.

We had a sample of the floor tile here and actually left it in the room for 2 days so everyone could walk on it, including the muddy dogs. I wanted to be sure it wasn’t hard to clean as well :).

I totally get the desire for tiled walls. When the kids were young, and very messy, I wished my kitchen was all tile, with a sloping floor, and a drain, like at a zoo – so you could just hose it down at the end of the day.

JMPO, if it was me I would go with the white gloss subway. The room has natural daylight which will reflect even better in the room, and as I get older I appreciate more light to notice the dirt in the clothes, on the walls or floors.

I have to say, I love how laminates now have porcelain type floors, and the beauty of these floors is grout is not an issue. I have a tiled floor with a tanish grout and I still pull out the toothbrush, steam cleaner, bleach, etc, because for me laundry rooms are like bathrooms and kitchens, I need clean, clean, clean. If I see one portion of the grout lighter than the other it screams DIRTY to me. I have 2 dogs, and 1 cat. As stated the kitty litter is in the laundry room, so I am constantly on it!

I like gloss tiles because they reflect light well so the room looks brighter. Have you considered large (12"x12" or bigger) tiles to reduce grout lines?

“The floor tile is a multi-toned textured porcelain that I hope will be neither slippery nor dirt revealing” - Sounds great. If it works out, please report back more details.

Matte. I had glossy tile in my foyer once and everyone almost broke their necks sliding when it got wet. We have matte tile now in our family room and it looks great, easy to clean and doesn’t get so slick.

I’ve got a Pinterest board with a couple dozen inspiration laundry rooms. You might check Pinterest for ideas.

Did someone mention a TV in the laundry room? Here’s one I saw recently, with mini-subways on the wall.

And here’s one with glossy subway tile:

As an aside: A friend of mine built a dog bath into her mudroom. In one corner she tiled the walls half-way up, put in a hand-held shower wand mid-way up, and on the floor it was like a shower pan, but about 3x4 ft dimensions. It is open on the two non-walled sides. Muddy dog in, clean dog out!

Slate tile on the floor would work well for a wet area and glossy white subway tile on your walls would be nice. I second the light grey grout.

Omg, I so love the dog shower :). Not enough room in my laundry room, unfortunately :(, but if we ever build I’ll be sure to have one of those.

Last year we toured the HGTV Green Home in Denver. (It was surprisingly small and expensive. And gasp - no microwave built-in due to energy consumption). It had a cute doggie shower area the garage.
