Lawrenceville or Bronx Science?

Hey there,

Sorry I’m a bit late to the conversation. My son is a graduate of Lville (class of 2018). I agree with all of the other posters above – that college choices will not be limited for you with either choice. Both schools have excellent college placement, and will prepare you well.

There are stark differences between the curricula of both schools however. Lville excels in the social sciences and languages, but is weaker on the sciences. Bronx Science on the other hand will give you a great preparation for STEM.

The student bodies are considerably different between the two schools. Lville has a lot of wealthy students and internationals. You’ll probably have more of a sink-or-swim feeling at Bronx Science. A full ride at Lville is a remarkable achievement, so I can understand why its difficult for you to decide.

Neither is a bad choice, and I wish you the best

Regarding college placement, I wanted to offer some more insights. From my son’s graduating class at Lville, here were the top college placements:

Princeton 12
Georgetown 11
Cornell 10
NYU 10
UPenn 8
UVa 7
UChicago 7
Brown 7
Columbia 6
Richmond 5
Yale 5
Northeastern 5

There were plenty of students who got into top colleges. Many of these students were legacy, development cases or athletes. There were lots of students who matriculated at less-well known schools. For example: Florida Atlantic U, Rhode Island College, Witherspoon, U Oklahoma, Monmouth U, etc.

But as others point out, don’t focus so much on the college placements. The schools do a good job of admitting students who they know will do well in the college admissions game. So the numbers are somewhat inflated based on hooks. If you graduate at the top of your class at Bronx Science, your doors will be wide open.

I imagine the OP made a choice already.

@CarmenLV. What did you decide and are you feeling excited about it?
