Thanks for the ideas. Some are things we’ve already thought of, but some are new. Now to figure out how to slip the new ones into conversation.

What about something seasonal to get you over the holiday hump.

Thanks, BunsenBurner - that CRA thing was what I was trying to describe in my post! I know quite a few people from my pharma days who retrained to be a CRA.

There seem to be some good suggestions!

Does he need to stay local? Houston has a large medical research industry and the area north of Houston has a lot of biotech. We have a spare bedroom if he wants to come check it out :-).

Another suggestion. If there is any interest in medical billing you can take classes online, at cc’s or tech schools. For my company I don’t need people to have a degree - however, I will interview someone applying who had a different career then went and took classes as it shows me they’re serious about changing careers.

I also agree with any kind of medical techs - radiology, respiratory, etc. You can get a specific degree and do internships which helps get your foot in the door.

Online businesses - people (like me) are getting lazier every day and I prefer to do as much shopping as possible online. You can do something like buying pallets of returned merchandise from retailers that they can’t resell, and sell it on craigslist or ebay.

OP - I would suggest looking at insurance companies. We hire people 50+ all the time for various roles… and with the new law most companies are hiring.

Are you close to Fort Meade? On the NSA website lots of jobs are posted. Might be something for him there.

Good luck to both of you.
