Yeah I think if you get wait listed you still have a high chance of getting in because lbw is not the most prestigious program and it is quite expensive so people will probably drope.
I got priority waitlisted for session 2. Do any of you guys know how many people were waitlisted, and what are the chances of getting off the waitlist?
Did you get in? I got inâŠbut the program is kinda expensive? Do you recommend actually going? I got in session 2 with 3.7 unweighted gpa, no standardized testing scores withonly 750 on sat us history and a 5 on apush.
Admitted to Session 1!
Does anyone have an idea of what the acceptance rate for LBW is? Or at the minimum, roughly how many people applied this year?
In regards to not being prestigious - acceptance rates have apparently dropped for LBW while launchx is allegedly decreasing in quality. Last year there were around 950 people for 160 spots (?) so around a 15% acceptance rate. The number has probably increased this year
Thanks for the update! Just a few follow-up questions that Iâd like to ask.
A) Where did you find the number of applicants for LBW last year? I looked around but could only find the 2014 data.
B) Is there any specific reason why you believe LBW will have a lower acceptance rate this year?
@hopesolo12 Could you elaborate on LaunchX decreasing in quality? I was accepted to both LaunchX and LBW and am having trouble deciding which program to attend. Any suggestions? Thanks!
As far as I know, Launch X seems more competitive in the last two years. One of my friends got in LBW last year with absolute fabulous EC and Scores but was rejected by Launch X. And the other friend got into LBW while getting waitlisted by Launch X.
Did you guys receive any informations about financial aids?
@Tonytwohaha @billywill18 As Launchx has expanded, the quality of instruction has decreased according to several friends who have attended over the past two years. Other friends with private counselors have heard similar things. There still is prestige attached to the launchx name, but itâs becoming less competitive.
@xqk5js There was a post in CC from 2019 where someone posted the admissions statistics. Applications are increasing for most semi/prestigious summer programs as they become more well known across the states and overseas. I know LBW took quite a few international Chinese students this year.
@hopesolo12 Yeah I hear that often with camps that are expanding. Last year, I went to YYGS, which is still considered a prestigious camp, but with the increasing tuition and size, itâs beginning to feel more like a money grab than its original intent. I still had fun and learned a lot, but I guess I had the price tag looming over my head. Maybe thatâs whatâs happening to Launch X as you described.
What are typical LBW stats for accepting current sophomores vs current juniors ? Got into Quarter Zero (Catapult Incubator) and got rejected from LBW as sophomore with 3.95 UW GPA, strong EC and essays. Got a note that try again next year.
I just donât get how LBW makes the decisions. My guess is that they are tied to âSummer Discoveryâ and preference given to current juniors. I was accepted and attended the Summer Discovery Business and Entrepreneurship program at Michigan last year
Anyhow, off to Q0/Catapult this summer. Will give LBW another try next year
@Jaggie99 I think as with many pre-college/college-related applications nowadays, essays and rec letters are the more important things, followed by ECs. However, itâs worth noting that you should usually strive to have relevant ECs and essays to what youâre applying for (not 100% foolproof, I think some fine arts/sciences people get in too)
As with admissions, for LBW, Wharton staff and students are the ones that make the decisions, as well as course curriculum, teachers, and, of course, the campus itself. Summer Discovery helps with the activities and such.
Try not to give too much thought into it. I was deferred for Launch X, despite having a stronger app there (or so I thought), while being accepted for Wharton (only had one rec letter from my counselor, who Iâm not too close with and despite being able to provide additional optional ones). Maybe sometimes how we feel about an application is not really in line with those of the admission people. As you said, just give it a try next year. If you really want to, you could take a look back at your app and see if itâs cohesive enough as one narrative.
@Jaggie99 i was accepted into LBW and Launch X as a current sophomore, and I will be attending both. Honestly, my stats and essays are pretty mediocre.
GPA: 3.93/4.0
APs: Bio, US history, Macro, Micro
No Standardize test scores as well
Before the decision, I was even considering my essay was out of topic and did not answer the âhow would you contribute to LBWâ part of the question.
But, I think my ECs and Recs are outstanding. My extracurricular list was four pages. I raised $65000 during the Fiscal year 2019; I was invited to join a White House dinner; I got one rec from a Harvard Prof. and from a US congressman.
I am an American Muslim, a refugee, and I consider myself in the spectrum of gender non-binary.
Lastly, I have talked to the admin of the program, they said that grade level is not a determining factor of admission, meaning that everyone were placed in the same applicant pool. Rising seniors were not granting priority.
okay buddy
