If a jacket is waterproof because of a special coating, the coating will eventually wear off. If it is waterproof because iit is made of a waterproof material, such as GoreTex, it won’t wear off unless you get a hole in it.
DH and I have gortex shells that are well over 15 years old. I have a Northface, and he has LLBean. Both are weatherproof, and look just about new. We wear them very often…very…often with a fleece under.
DD had an EMS shell and fleece. The shell lasted about six years…not bad since two of those years were in equatorial Africa.
I’m so sorry. You are missing so much!
According to the Gore Company:
Columbia agreed that the jacket I mailed back could NOT be repaired and just sent me a merchandise credit for the full purchase price so I can select something from their online or bricks & mortar store.
I will have to figure out what to get instead. The jacket was still in great shape, except for the bothersome leaking issue.
OK, finally ordered the replacement jacket, with this one,
I also ordered each of the kids a nice warm hat,
I’m happy and think they will be as well.
Nice!!
