Leaving for USMA- The Second Year

Often on these message boards I see posted questions concerning what events should parents attend at WP. Without a doubt our visit to see my son at Camp Buckner was our families favorite time during this great journey. Camp Buckner literally is a big summer camp like any other summer camp scattered through the mountains of upstate NY (except there are no fat “kids” and all the “kids” carry M-16’s). A parent sent me pictures of Camp Buckner from the early 1950’s, it hasn’t changed a bit. My son described CFT at Buckner as much more physically demanding than BEAST, BUT nobody is yelling at you. A huge difference. They will have many weekends off that you will be able to visit with them. Our whole family along with several other families were able to set up our grills right on this absolutely picture perfect lake at Camp Buckner. We probably fed 50 or more cadets each of the 2 trips we made up there. There were many other families doing the excact same thing. I had a great time just sitting back watching the cadets relax, play football, vollyball, swim, canoeing and tell stories. Things I NEVER heard at home. Absolutely comical stuff. So if is at all possible make the trip up there you won’t regret it.

This is a very a very busy WP weekend for me. I will be attending the the Air Assault graduation at Camp Smith on saturday and will be at the parents club table on R-day. Good Luck to all.
