<p>I bought myself out of my $85/mo Verizon smartphone plan a couple of years ago and switched to VM (the $35 plan was $25 when I switched and I’m grandfathered). I paid $150 for the phone, $150 to get out of my VZ contract early, and broke even in less than 3 months.</p>
<p>Around here Sprint/VM coverage is actually better than Verizon’s, so between that and the VASTLY lower plan cost, I haven’t regretted my choice for a moment.</p>
<p>I pay $75 a month for 3 smartphones with unlimited data, unlimited texting and 300 minutes each phone. S and i have Androids, D has an iphone 4.</p>
<p>I LOVE not having a contract. If you do want to leave there is a very strong secondary market for VM phones on ebay and such.</p>
