Left pumpkin pie out too long

Refrigerate and eat it.
Uncooked eggs like in mayo are a real concern. Cooked eggs like in a pie are not.

Mayonnaise is not the concern, it’s how many cuts that chicken salad endured. How many places did bacteria get in.

The locally famous pace for cakes and pies set out boxes of them last evening and all day today, easily a hundred.

Glad you called.

Glad to hear it’s okay. Finally saw the Libby’s pumpkin can recipe fine print that says to refrigerate the pie. Physician here and understand the logic but I have over 60 years (getting old) of having pumpkin pie baked the day before and left on the counter for a day or two. Never a problem. I’m sure the pie was protected with plastic and so not even household germs fell on it. If the store did not feel a need to refrigerate their pies they can’t be that prone to spoiling.

Beware of raw flour:

I’d enjoy the pumpkin pie.
I’m a microbiologist.

But- that pie was cooked, no raw flour. Good to hear another person aware of infections would eat that pie too. I’ll bet we’re both good hand washers. And- home rules are not the same as in the work place. Sterility not needed.

I never even thought of refrigerating pies. Make them the night before/they’re gone in a couple days. Mom and grandma didn’t refrigerate theirs, either. Never a problem.

When I buy pies they are nade from early in the day or the night before and sitting around unrefrigerated until purchased late in the day.
