Legal Docs for College Freshman

When we did our estate planning, H and I named one another durable POA. I don’t recall ever doing something similar for our kids. It may be something to do this holiday.

Thatz a a super hard question the truth is it goes by any immediate next of kin. Could be a son, sister, thats why some people prefer to have a POA

Durable power of attorney allows access to financial matters and business matters and is helpful should something go awry especially if your child is abroad and doesn’t have access like he would in the states. It helps expedite the process rather than waiting for a legal proceeding. At least that’s my understanding .

There is a financial one and a health one. You can always have both too, legal documents can be vague in that, I make durable poa just so my clients dont have to sign at closing when they buy a housr thats a financial one but its specific to just a real estate closing one can have one for medical too, its all about the language you choose to add.
