I’ve only had sex once, and I probably wouldn’t use prostitution if it was legal (too expensive). And why do you act like it would only be young people? I can imagine plenty of older guys using it as well.

I just don’t get WHY you think it’s bad that young people have sex outside a relationship (which already occurs at an incredibly high frequency in colleges), other than that it satisfies a primitive impulse (as do many other things). I myself don’t care if people have casual, SAFE sex any more than I care if people smoke marijuana in the comfort of their own home.

Legalizing prostitution would allow working men and women the protection of police when they are assaulted, or if they are unpaid for thier services, it may provide for a more brothel type experience where the employer could provide benefits, such as health insurance, and most of all, this would allow workers to openly form unions to regulate themselves and protect them from abusive employment situations. It would make prostitution safer for the worker and the client. Underage prostitution would still be illegal, and with fewer prostitutes in unregulated working conditions, the harder it would be to disguise underage sex trade. I see no negative in legalizing and regulating prostitution.

Yeah, Axiom, I’m confused as to what’s wrong with having casual, safe sex. Sure, technically you don’t need to have it unless you want a kid, but humans do have sexual needs. Maybe a few people don’t, but the vast majority do. Sure, it just satisfies a primitive impulse, but are you saying if you have an itch you shouldn’t scratch it? That’s a primitive impulse which there is no NEED to fulfill.

Sex is not required, but it is a nice thing to have. Should we get rid of other nice things because they aren’t necessary? Delicious food isn’t necessary. All we need is simple plain food. Should we abolish nice restaurants? We like things that give us pleasure. If we eliminate the negatives that can come from sex and do it responsibly, then what’s the problem?

Also, what about gays or lesbians? We can’t have kids at all by natural means. Should we not have sex?

You are as you said a virgin though so your views make sense for you.

Technically, biologically speaking sex is an important means to the end of producing dopamine and other chemical reactions in the mind and body that promote mental and physical health. Not just for baby making… And while some of these chemical reactions can be derived from other pleasure and stress reducing activities, why not sex? It also provides the necessary social interaction that people have come to need to promote healthy brain function (i.e. see cases of extreme isolation, we are social animals, lets make happy hormones together!)

A fun blurb on Prostitution, gambling and illegal drugs in the U.S. how effective is banning prostitution in comparison to how vulnerable it makes prostitutes without police, wage and health protections?
