I’m not sure what the “lularoe look” is since they have so many styles of tops, dresses and cardigans. I’m sitting here at work with dark print lularoe leggings, a straight, form fitting lularoe dress and a slim longer cardigan over it. Perfect outfit, in my opinion. My daughter is a priest and wears a lot of Lularoe- belted flowy dresses over leggings and the straight skirts with the print tops tucked in. The combinations are so great. The giant tops that look like tents are not for me, though.

I don’t have time right now but I would be curious to see if some of us have changed our opinion of leggings as pants over the years. I know there must be several old threads on leggings for our age and leggings as pants.
I’m like @jaylynn where if I work out in the morning I will do my errands in my exercise leggings. I try to have a longer top on.
At the end of last summer I bought a cute pink linen top. It is not long enough to be considered a dress. Last summer I wore it with white boyfriend style jeans. i bought a pair of white capri leggings yesterday to try on with the top. I went to JJill and tried on the white leggings but in white I wanted something thicker. I ended up with a pair of JJill capri pants. We sized them down to get a legging like fit. I still need to try them with the top to see if I’ll keep them. If not I’ll keep looking.
i wear black leggings with sweaters or longer tops a lot. Mostly exercise leggings by Zella that I use as footless tights. I have a thick pair of Hue leggings that I wear if I want less compression or a less athletic look. I also just got a pair of just below the knee Lululemon pants that I wear for exercise but also wear with a long t shirt.
Any recommendations for longer t shirts that don’t look like tents.
These are my new favorite leggings. http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1033641&vid=1&pid=138443012
They are high waisted, thick and have pockets. I bought a gray pair and loved them so much I went back and got them in black and a print. They look good with tennis shoes, flats and boots.
Things I like, high waisted leggings so no muffin top. Not shiny. I tend for thicker more expensive leggings as I think they are more forgiving. Don’t show all that jingling that happens with cheap leggings. And big, be careful for that camel toe! No, no, no!
I dress a lot like @jaylynn. Leggings, shirt, vest. Or tunics with leggings and flats or boots.
I have trouble finding jeans I like, leggings are easy to buy.
I actually had trouble finding pictures of people in short tops on the Lularoe website. I think the two pictures if you scroll to just before the pictures of men are legging looks I don’t like. Ugly patterns short top. There’s some one with a very bright orange and other color strips and floral tunic, that I could never pull off, but I think is fine.
I agree I’ve seen too many people in too tight leggings wear you can see everything. (And I don’t think thong undies are a help, though probably better than white underwear.) I own one pair of black leggings and rarely wear them. Sometimes with dresses that I think are too short, or with the longer sweaters I own. But I’m much more likely to put on my NYD jeans which I have in multiple colors and HAVE POCKETS.
Those are interesting with the back pockets @deb922!
Here’s another thing I think with black leggings and/or with the Lularoe ones. You can avoid looking sloppy/pj’ish/etc. by MAKING AN OUTFIT. Throwing on a pair or patterned “pants” with a Winnie The Pooh sweatshirt from 1989 and your old dirty white Adidas tennis shoes is not going to cut it!
Some of the Lularoe pants are wild. But not all. If some of the quirky/seasonal ones make you happy, I say go for it - even in public - as long as you pay attention to the other components of your look. Head to toe.
What is Lularoe? I thought folks were talking about Lululemon (which has great leggings).
“Any recommendations for longer t shirts that don’t look like tents.”
@mom60, for long tight fitting tees I wear Vince, Michael Starr, Velvet, Splendid and James Perse. They come down to the top of my thighs - so cover my bum.
There is also a very inexpensive brand I buy Ambiance Apparel. They are like $6! I wear them around the house, with my tennis shirt or yoga pants ( in winter when it’s cold even on indoor tennis courts.)
My daughter wears leggings with short or long tops, as if they were pants, all the time. I don’t wear them outside of the house without something that covers my hips.
I think the rule for dressing should be this: before you go out, look in the mirror. Does your clothing fit? Do you like the way you look in it? Do you think it is appropriate for the occasion and/or venue where you are headed? Also appropriate for the weather? If you can answer “yes” to all of these, your outfit is fine.
I am not a leggings person. I have never, ever liked tight clothing. There’s just something about stuff touching my skin that has always bugged me.
That said, I wear straight leg sweats/pajama-type pants when I want to be comfy. That includes pretty much everywhere except like school/work (when I am teaching… other days are fair game).
I dress like a few others here…often I go out in black leggings and a longer top (not a dress or skirt) that covers my rear. I then may wear a cardigan or cropped jacket, scarf, etc. I wear these outfits with flats, boots or sandals. Leggings are just so comfortable.
@deb922, those leggings look great. I may just have to order a pair! My current favorites are an older pair from gap. Wide waistband hitting the waist, thick cotton with just a small % of something that stretches but they not stretching out too quickly are my requirements. Love the addition of pockets. I have one pair from Hue (nordstrom rack) but they stretch out very quickly so won’t be buying more of those.
@Bromfield2 , Lululemon and Lularoe, two different animals.
Sorry, the fashion police don’t get to say: You’re too fat/old to wear that look. If a woman wants to wear a style and thinks it works for her, good for her, go for it. Fat women, like all other women, should wear comfortable styles if they want to.
I wear spandex tights (that is, leggings) all winter when I’m riding my bike, so I’m not that interested in wearing them off the bike. But I wish I could find a replacement for a pair of Icebreaker wool yoga pants that I managed to put a hole in. I loved those pants.
I reserve my wild-printed tights and leggings for running and other types of exercise. I like to wear sweater dresses with dark leggings and tall boots, and IMO I look professional in those outfits. B-) Some Lulu leggings are amazingly comfortable and feel like natural extension of my skin.
Personally, I’d rather see white underwear than all the dimples on someone’s butt.
@“Cardinal Fang” I’m not certain if that was my quote, but I actually agree with you. I am older (50) and heavy and I don’t have a problem wearing them. I wear them layered with something longer on top and a cardigan. It was just an example of how versatile they can be and in rebuttal to the claim that heavy woman should not wear them. I am in no way trying to be the “fashion police.”
Many women - skinny and heavy - buy leggings that are a size or two too small for them. Sure the fabric can stretch to accomodate a bigger that designed body stuffed into them, but the result is NOT a good look no matter what the woman’s size.
This recent trend for “compression” for athletic tights seems, to me, to be a thinly veiled way to sell tights that are too small. I recently bought a pair of running tights (I use them for cycling) that are supposed to be Mens XL. I am not size Mens XL, yet these tights are snug on me. I’d hate to think what they looked like on someone who normally wears Mens XL. And these particular tights were not the only ones that were sized IMO incorrectly. All the other ones I tried on were equally too tight. Lest you say I’m in denial about my size, I’ve been buying athletic tights for 30 years, and I haven’t changed sizes in that time. The tights have gotten smaller.
Athletic tights IMO, is a different category. Meant for exercise. Period. I don’t care don’t give a hoot if anyone running or biking wears tights that show undies. As long as it is not injurious to their body (like running in flipflops or improperly fit bra)… It is a completely different thing to be stuck on a tightly packed escalator behind someone’s butt separated from your face by a stretched-out layer of already thin fabric.
LulaRoe actually works really well for larger women and their sizes go way, way up. The layering pieces are stylish and fun. I love the print leggings, but I don’t come to work with cheeseburger print or cartoon print leggings.
