Our kid dressed as a dog in a Halloween costume. Amazing transformation!
It’s warm here, but it’s windy. TorT hours are 6-7:30. Things usually taper off a bit after 7. I have plenty of candy for 100 kids (which we had last year), plus I’m passing out candy for my neighbor, who is under the weather. Almost time to grab my adult beverage & join my next door neighbor for our annual tradition of passing out candy together!
Halloween is the only day of the year I miss living in our old neighborhood! So many kids were trick of treating on our street!
Tonight’s full size offerings:
M&Ms
Peanut M&Ms
Peanut Butter M&Ms
Reese’s Cups
Kit Kats
Hershey Bars
3 Musketeers
Milky Ways
Snickers
Twix
Haribo Gummy Bears
Ring Pops
Evening report. We are out of candy. Just a few comments.
In general, I like giving out candy. As I mentioned upthread, we get hundreds. There really aren’t any kids in our immediate area, I don’t mind this at all, though many do. If I spend $100 for other kids to have a safe holiday, I’m happy to do so.
Nice items - most kids were super sweet. Lots of nice parents; older siblings taking the kids around. Many many kids loved seeing Mr CM for the first time since his retirement. Lots of hugs. One girl gave us a self made index happy Halloween card.
Negatives - we had a lot of kids not use our stairs and climb all over our bank, walls, etc. we had trouble with this years ago, but lately most have been respectful. Nope.
Weed. I wouldn’t say the smell was constant, but I don’t remember the smell being this strong and regularly present.
I’m struggling with this one… when we run out of candy, I go down to the street to pass out what little I have, and apologize for being out. One adult shouted out - not in a humorous way- go to Walmart. Maybe you should have come out earlier. 15 pounds for strangers is enough.
You have such a good attitude and sounds like you made so many happy. That dude was a loser.
Welp, it was 70+ degrees but WINDY -like WINDY. And then, right at 6pm the start of T or T it started to sprinkle. By 6:45 it was raining. We didn’t expect much of anyone in our new location but we literally had ONE. And that was a car that happened to see me on the porch at 6pm setting up so she pulled in the driveway. LOL, now my husband has his eye on all the little packs of Oreos - they will be going to work in the morning with me!
It was a woman (wink). Sticking up for the dudes lol
Edit - so to not have so many replies here. Something that did make me chuckle. I wonder how many pictures and videos I’ve been in other the years. Parents love to photograph their little ones getting candy. We’ve been here at this house for 18 years!
Nice turnout and our house. Gave out about 300 pieces of candy. Still have about 100 left that will go to work with H tomorrow. If anyone comes now they’ll get a ton of candy ;).
Very few teens this year. Mostly all littles and pre teens.
Started out at 70 and windy and just came in at 49 degrees with three more layers as we were sitting on the front porch.
Very fun night!
We had our neighborhood Halloween party. It was great. Almost everyone came, and there was three times as much food as we could even come close to eating. And all of it was fabulous. Honestly, we have the best neighbors. Some of the guys are still outside (we ran an extension cord so we could have a light on the street when it got dark).
And all of us left candy treats for the two young children in their mailbox. We hope the mail person doesn’t think it’s for her! We did send the dad a text to let him know!
Our turnout was lighter than expected, but probably 60. Cousin in Pittsburgh area told us they had a new record … 165!
Well, weather related impact—- there is always a party at the pool for the little ones before they start to trick or treat in the rest of the neighborhood. But I suspect that because the weather is soooo nice, the little ones stayed at the pool area! Its 8:30 (most are done by 9) and we have had way fewer visitors than normal and almost all (but maybe the very first ones who came with their parents in a golf cart) are teens or families from outside of the neighborhood (one family just came with a 2 month old!) we havent even opened the second box of candy bars yet! Some took the fruit snacks but most picked the big bars. Wonder if we can return the unopened box to Costco?
Update: Just got some more teens from cars driving into the neighborhood. Some couldn’t have nuts so we opened the second box. Guess DH will take leftovers into the office
Done by 8. Unusually warm weather, so pleasant.
Saw some bananas, and then typical princess, ballerina, superheroes, ghosts, firefighters.
Two big sharks, too😆 teased them with a chorus of “Baby Shark”.
Several Elmos this year. Got ballerinas, security guards, bloody sweaters (!) and a light up mask with matching gloves.
I made myself look like a goofball singing Baby Shark a couple times tonight too. ![]()
The kids thought it was hysterical… both were kids I didn’t know.
Lots of family themes or pre-teens in a group theme, in addition to the usual princesses, Pokémon, police, firemen, superheroes. Several super impressive DIY costumes that were especially fun to see.
We had a dad with his autistic son come by. The dad was helping his son try to say trick or treat.. Clearly, it was very difficult for the boy, and then his dad told us that he is nonverbal. We told him we thought that he did a great job talking to us, and dad lit up. We gave the kid a bunch of candy, because he made our night.
We also realized that in our part of the neighborhood there are now very few younger kids. The neighbors on one side are out of town and their kids are grown, as are most around us. So probably very few houses right near us made it evident they were giving candy so maybe folks went elsewhere (and where it’s easier to go house to house.)
