Let's Play the College Ranking Game (Plus/Minus)

Columbia (1): 8
MIT (2): 14

how does these seeding works?

Columbia (1): 7
MIT (2): 15

yeah how did columbia get (1)?

Columbia (1): 6
MIT (2): 16

Seeding was based on the 2011 iteration of the US News college rankings. I’m sure that most CC’ers would rank MIT (and Stanford and Caltech) above Columbia, but instead of having to debate over which college should be seeded what, I created a seeding system based on the most well-known ranking (which, in my opinion, is roughly accurate) to eliminate personal bias. Since there are four quarters in the bracket, the top four colleges received the number 1 seed in each of the quarters (Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Columbia). This relegated MIT, Caltech, and Stanford to number 2 seedings; it is what it is.

Columbia (1): 5
MIT (2): 17
