Let's Play the College Ranking Game (Plus/Minus)

If nobody actually thought MIT was better than Stanford, it wouldn’t have lasted so long. There’s no criteria for adding and subtracting points.

says who?

In the fields where they all compete against one another MIT is arguably the better school (math, science, engineering, economics…).

^ that’s what (some) MIT students like to tell themselves. (MIT isn’t better in any of those disciplines.)

I have a feeling that those who keep voting up MIT don’t think that it’s actually “better” than H or S, but want it to win anyway. Hence the whole “MIT fanatics” on the board. Which is okay–after all this is just a popularity contest. ;)

I was just surprised that one of H/S was eliminated before MIT, which is much more narrow the other two.

Narrow and deep will beat broad and shallow any day. Let’s face it when was the the last time a school called itself the “Stanford of (Insert country)”. MIT is the recognized worldwide leader in science and technology.

i guess math/science/engineering is more popular.

and people vote for their favorite school. what you said is what others say who don’t think MIT is better (using your logic) :)

anyway, it’ll be a battle between MIT and Stanford, the top 1 & 2 schools in the country:)

MIT 24
Stanford 13

+s

MIT 25
Stanford 12

+M -S

Not turning this into a debate but just wanted to add

Except that doesn’t apply here… Stanford and Harvard are both broad and deep. Not sure what you mean by “Stanford of (insert country)” (do people say “MIT of (country)”?)

It is a recognized worldwide leader in science and technology.

(Now I’m starting to understand–some people on this board actually, truly do think MIT is superior.)

Michigan Institute of Technology
Indian Institute of Technology
ITT Technical Institute

Dime a dozen. :p

There are only 3-5 universities that offer breadth and depth across a wide range of academic disciplines.

And there is only one Leland Stanford Junior University.

MIT 24
Stanford 13

furd, - mit

Yes they do.

Tsinghua. MIT of China
IIT. MIT of India
Technion, MIT of Israel
National University (Singapore)
…

MIT 23
Stanford 14

Stanford, - MIT

MIT 24
Stanford 13

m, -s

I have a feeling it’s mostly MIT people who refer to other ITs as the “MIT of .” But of course this is irrelevant anyway (you hear “ is the Harvard of ___” way more often, yet H was eliminated before MIT).

MIT 23
Stanford 14

-M, +S

MIT 22
Stanford 15

-M, +S

MIT 24
Stanford 13

MIT , + Stanford

MIT 21
Stanford 16

^I think thecolororange meant to say MIT 23, Stanford 14

MIT 24
Stanford 13

-S, +M

MIT 25
Stanford 12

MIT 26
