Well…it ended and we are even thinking about another one! :)

A couple of suggestions as you explore the NCAA format.

You may want to consider 32 unis and 32 LACs with the top LAC meeting the top uni in the final. That could help build support for the LACs who may end up being wiped out early otherwise.

There are 30 LACs on CC. If you add Army and Navy which are LAC- like in many ways you would have 32 LACs or the bottom half of the draw.

There are 19 + 8 = 27 top universities on CC. You will need to add five more to get to 32. Picking the last five among universities with very active CC boards such as USC and Tulane for instance would make sense.

You do need to consider seeding for both LACs and unis to make it interesting. Otherwise, Stanford up could end facing Harvard or Amherst facing Williams in the first round which would be dumb.

You also do need to set restrictions on voting so that people can’t create fake accounts to skew the game.

All the games in each round need to start and end at the same time to prevent delays.

There has to be a way to get into some OT rules if a game drags on too long. Switching to +1, -2 after a few days may work.

Thanks for saving me some time! I’ll definitely implement your suggestions. The game won’t be up until Sunday, though–State Science Fair tomorrow ;). Wish me luck!

Good Luck!

NCAA sounds like fun but internationals like me hardly know what NCAA is. :(

I’m just glad northwestern is higher than rice…

Alright guys, it’ll be up in a few. Once it’s up, I’m open to suggestions for the first day or so.

I’ve realized that I won’t be able to complete the bracket today (a LOT of work and tinkering). However, it’ll definitely be done by tomorrow.

I’ve decided to only include universities. Sorry guys, but I don’t think an LAC would stand a chance against a university in the final. We’ll do an LAC specific one later. Here are the rules (as they are currently):

1) There are 64 universities (top 64 on US News). There is a five way tie for 64th so I’ve chosen one arbitrarily. It won’t make much of a difference, though, since it’s up against Harvard first. These will be seeded according to their US News ranking. I’ll make sure top seeds don’t meet until the later rounds.

2) There will be six rounds of play. Each college will start at 5 points in the first round, 7 in the second (32 unis), 9 in the third (sweet sixteen), 11 in the fourth (elite eight), 13 in the fifth (final four), and 15 in the sixth (top two/championship game). There will only be one game going on at a time. I’ll manage when to start a new one.

3) A college wins when its competition has been reduced to 0 points. It will be on a plus one, minus one system. Should games last too long, I’ll implement overtime rules (+1, -2).

Any objections? Improvements? Feel free to give me some input.

studious…Williams is not going to beat Wake Forest?..that would indeed be a sad day…would that be because the voters just had no idea of the quality of institutions they’d be voting on?

No, Williams would almost surely beat Wake Forest. But the proposed plan was that we have a 32 uni bracket and a 32 LAC bracket, with the two champions meeting for a final (top LAC vs. top uni). So, it would be something like Harvard vs. Williams, or MIT vs. Amherst. It’d be an easy win for the top university.

What about LACs?

why separate the LACs and unis into their own brackets? Just throw them all into one list.

I hate to disappoint, but the bracket won’t be up till tomorrow.

About the LACs, it just seems illogical. They’ll all be gone by the third or fourth round. Why throw them in there when they wouldn’t survive? Plus, it’d be very difficult for me to seed them. Furthermore, I’m already halfway done with the regular bracket, and I think people will be happier if we just stick to universities for now. LAC ranking will come later, though!

Once again, I’ve gotten home very late, and I have tons of work to do. Will be up over the weekend at the latest! Sorry guys!

Cant wait for the new version

Wow, that took an absolutely monumental amount of work. Well, I hope you guys like it!

You only play one bracket?

What are you asking? There are 64 schools, and after each round, the total will be halved. We do one game at a time. It’ll be a long, and hopefully entertaining, game.

^ My question is, and assuming from your first vote, we’re only looking and voting on the first (Harvard vs. Pitt) bracket…correct?
